Flight Score
Smooth the climb
A good takeoff has a defined shape. It also has a defined end. For an airliner that's thrust reduction and acceleration, commonly somewhere around 1,000 to 1,500 ft above the airfield depending on the operator, while for a light aircraft it's established at Vy with the flaps on schedule. Most simmers have no defined end to their takeoff, which is exactly why it never gets judged.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 5,004 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 984 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Piper Aerostar 600 with the registration NI22PC, then departed from runway 35 at KSTJ Rosecrans Memorial Airport in St Joseph, Missouri. The takeoff distance was 1,107 feet, which accounted for 14% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 80 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 89 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 240 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a tailwind of 4 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead KSTJ Rosecrans Memorial Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,149 feet above sea level to 9,459 feet, an increase of 8,310 feet in just 7 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 1 mile west of the Lawlor-Justus Airport at Faucett, Missouri. This cruise phase lasted for 110 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 968 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 1 mile east of Katonah, New York. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 9,118 feet above sea level to 7,051 feet, a decrease of 2,067 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 51 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 2 miles east of the Nayaug Seaplane Landing Area at South Glastonbury, Connecticut. This cruise phase lasted for just 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 22 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started 3 miles southeast of Windham, Connecticut. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 7,054 feet above sea level to 665 feet, a decrease of 6,389 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 30 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at KSFZ North Central State Airport was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading 32.0 degrees at an altitude of 241 feet above ground level, 1 nautical mile from the runway. The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 72 knots. The touchdown distance was 976 feet, which was 39% of the runway length. The touchdown rate was smooth at -128 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 61 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 109 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 1 knot. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, which took just 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,081 nautical miles, which was covered in 139 minutes, using a total of 394 pounds of fuel.
The aircraft, a Piper Aerostar 600 with the registration NI22PC, successfully landed at KSFZ North Central State Airport with a score of 97.9%. The pilot executed a precise final approach to runway 05 from the southwest, maintaining a heading of 32.0° at 1 nautical mile and 241 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a threshold speed of 93 kt, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown distance of 976 feet was also satisfactory, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown speed of 72 kt was within the recommended limits, and the touchdown rate of -128 feet per minute was smooth, suggesting a gentle impact on the runway.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained a precise course during the final approach. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 61°F and a wind speed of 5 kt from 109°. The crosswind component was 4 kt, while the headwind component was 1 kt, which did not pose a significant challenge to the pilot.
The total landing distance of 1,972 feet was 39% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot executed a well-planned and controlled approach, resulting in a smooth and efficient landing. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, resulting in a high score of 97.9%. The pilot's skills and experience were evident in the smooth and efficient landing, which was achieved despite the presence of a crosswind component.
