Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 13,337 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,283 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 01 at EYVI Vilnius International Airport. The takeoff distance was 3,200 feet, which was 39% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 280 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead EYVI Vilnius International Airport and continued to an altitude of 36,477 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 113 nautical miles and took 21 minutes to complete.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile north-west of Goniadz, Poland. This cruise phase lasted for 93 minutes and covered a distance of 680 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 5 miles east of Sveti Vlas, Bulgaria. This descent phase took 25 minutes to complete and covered a distance of 109 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 37,543 feet to 2,861 feet above sea level.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile east of Beylikduezue, Turkey, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started 3 miles west of Basaksehir, Turkey. This descent phase took 2 minutes to complete and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 2,857 feet to 1,630 feet above sea level.
The final approach to runway 35R at LTFM İstanbul Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 359.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,415 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The landing was made on runway 35R, which had a length of 13,337 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 130 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 1,284 feet, and the touchdown speed was 123 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -277 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 12 knots from a direction of 40 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 9 knots.
The total landing distance was 4,655 feet, which was 35% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 924 nautical miles, and the flight took 165 minutes to complete. The aircraft used a total of 13,286 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at LTFM İstanbul Airport on runway 35R, achieving a high score of 98.5%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 359.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,415 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 130 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated a good touchdown distance of 1,284 feet, and the touchdown speed was within acceptable limits at 123 knots. However, the touchdown rate was slightly below average at -277 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a slightly steeper descent than desired. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 45°F and winds of 12 knots at 40°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 9 knots. The total landing distance of 4,655 feet was within 35% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft maintained a stable and controlled descent throughout the landing roll.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and stability throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases. The slight deviation in touchdown rate was the only notable area for improvement, but it did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing.
