MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Begin the flare with progressive back pressure and keep it coming until the sink is arrested, rather than flying it on flat.
What happened: The nose was barely raised in the flare and little of the sink was taken out, flying the aircraft onto the runway. This pattern usually carries through to a firm touchdown with a noticeable sink rate.
Watch for: Vertical speed indicator: a smoothly reducing sink through the normal flare band, not a steady rate into the runway.
There are several things that can go wrong during the flare, carrying too much speed over the threshold, starting the flare at the wrong height and inconsistent flight control inputs, all contribute to a poor flare resulting in a hard touchdown or a float down the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,305 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,305 ft of the 8,813 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,357 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A321ceo taxied from the parking to runway 26R at KLAS Harry Reid International Airport, a 9-minute, 2 nm movement. The take-off roll used 8,563 ft, 64 % of the runway, and rotation occurred at 168 kt. Local weather was 94 °F, wind 3 kt from 039°, with a 2 kt crosswind and a 2 kt tailwind.
Initial climb to 1,000 ft agl took 29 seconds, averaging 1,832 fpm and reaching 181 kt at the top. The climb continued from 3,237 ft asl to 30,677 ft asl in 26 minutes, covering 179 nm, beginning about 1 mile west of KLAS.
The aircraft levelled between 31,000 ft asl and 33,000 ft asl for 204 minutes, covering 1,637 nm, starting 6 miles west of AZ03 Cliff Dwellers Lodge Airport Marble Canyon.
Descent from 32,968 ft asl to 1,267 ft asl took 27 minutes over 144 nm, beginning overhead 73PN Finkhaven Airport Trout Run, with brief level-offs at 7,000 ft asl and 2,800 ft asl.
Final approach to runway 04R at KEWR Newark Liberty International Airport descended from 1,300 ft agl to 60 ft agl in 97 seconds. Stabilisation checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway were met for gear down, landing flap, sink rate, glideslope, centreline, speed and wings level. Configuration was landing gear down at 1,837 ft agl, 197 kt; final flap position 5 at 1,190 ft agl, 174 kt.
Landing on runway 04R, runway length 8,813 ft, had a good threshold height. Threshold speed was 153 kt. The flare was described as great, with little round-out. Touchdown occurred 1,357 ft down the runway at 143 kt, a firm rate of minus 345 fpm, and perfect alignment. No bounce was observed. Total landing distance was 5,025 ft, 57 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was very good.
The aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway in 10 minutes, covering 2 nm. The total flight covered 1,971 nm in 278 minutes and used 29,982 lbs of fuel.
The Airbus A321ceo completed a stabilised approach at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits, and descended from 1,300 ft agl to 60 ft agl in 97 seconds on final to runway 04R at KEWR.
Crossing the threshold the aircraft maintained a good height and a threshold speed of 153 kt, meeting the required parameters for a clean transition to flare.
Touchdown occurred 1,355 ft down the runway at a speed of 143 kt; the vertical rate was firm at minus 347 fpm and the touchdown alignment was perfect, with ambient conditions of 63 °F, wind 7 kt from 20°, a 1-kt crosswind and a 7-kt headwind.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 5,025 ft, representing 57 % of the 8,813-ft runway, and the runway-rollout alignment was very good.
With a score of 97.4 %, the landing was excellent; refining the flare to achieve a slightly softer touchdown could further reduce the landing distance and enhance overall efficiency.
