Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,624 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,624 m of the 2,317 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 780 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Dublin Airport, taking 11 minutes and covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 10R, with a takeoff distance of 1,455 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 157 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 16°C temperature and a wind speed of 22 knots at 140 degrees. The crosswind was 15 knots, while the headwind was also 15 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile northeast of Ballymun, Ireland, where the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,216 feet above sea level to 23,214 feet, an increase of 21,998 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 57 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 6 miles west of Cemaes Bay, Wales, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 53 nautical miles. The enroute descent began overhead Rhydymwyn, Wales, where the aircraft descended from 23,219 feet to 1,623 feet, a decrease of 21,595 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 65 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 15 at Birmingham International Airport was made from the northwest, heading 146.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,279 feet above ground level, 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 2,317 meters, and the threshold height was slightly above the target at 58 feet above ground level. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 142 knots.
The touchdown point was 360 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 128 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -258 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 17.0 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 13°C temperature and a wind speed of 15 knots at 120 degrees, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 13 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,539 meters, accounting for 66% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 20.5 meters from the centerline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 185 nautical miles, taking 53 minutes, and the aircraft used 1,857 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at EGBB Birmingham International Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the north-west, heading 146.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,279 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 15, which has a length of 2,317 meters.
The threshold height at 58 feet agl was slightly above the target, indicating a minor deviation in the aircraft's descent. Similarly, the threshold speed of 142 knots was also slightly above the target, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly fast during the approach. However, the touchdown speed of 128 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -258 feet per minute (fpm) was fair.
One of the notable issues with this landing was the significant misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was 17.0 meters off the centerline. This could be attributed to the crosswind component of 6 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's directional control during the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 13°C and a wind speed of 15 knots at 120°, also played a role in the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,539 meters was 66% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 20.5 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have experienced some directional control issues during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some notable deviations from the ideal parameters, which may require further analysis and improvement to ensure safer and more efficient landings in the future.
