Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: off the centreline.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 4° glideslope and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,161 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,161 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 276 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 2.38 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 18 at KRNV Cleveland Municipal Airport. The aircraft, an OV-10 Bronco, took off with a takeoff distance of 417 meters, which was 27% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 104 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 18 knots at 199 degrees. The crosswind was 6 knots, and the headwind was 16 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of KRNV Cleveland Municipal Airport, it began its enroute climb, reaching an altitude of 1,149 feet above sea level in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. The climb was followed by a level cruise, which lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, losing 528 feet in altitude in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The flight continued with a series of enroute climbs and descents, with the aircraft reaching altitudes of up to 3,323 feet above sea level. The climbs and descents were interspersed with level cruises, during which the aircraft maintained a steady altitude and speed. The flight path took the aircraft over several locations, including Rosedale, Gunnison, Friars Point, Lula, Helena-West Helena, Tunica, North Tunica, Lake Cormorant, Walls, and Southaven.
As the aircraft approached its destination, M01 General Dewitt Spain Memphis, it began its final approach to runway 35 from the south. The approach was made at a heading of 348.0 degrees, with the aircraft at an altitude of 820 feet above ground level and 1 nautical mile from the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 270 degrees.
The aircraft landed on runway 35, with a touchdown distance of 238 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 72 knots, and the touchdown rate was very heavy at -823 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 355 meters, which was 31% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.3 meters from the centerline.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 1 minute to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 110 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 37 minutes. The aircraft used 239 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The OV-10 Bronco aircraft successfully landed at M01 General Dewitt Spain, but with some notable areas for improvement. The final approach to runway 35 was initiated from the south, heading 348.0° at 1 nautical mile and 820 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated, and it scored 78.7%.
The threshold height at 83 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been higher than desired at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed was good at 87 knots, suggesting that the pilot maintained a suitable speed during the approach. The touchdown distance of 238 meters was also within acceptable limits.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 72 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was very heavy at -823 feet per minute (fpm), indicating that the aircraft may have touched down with a significant amount of force. This could potentially lead to a bumpy ride for passengers and may also put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.0 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the approach. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 270°. The crosswind component was minimal, at 2 knots, and there was no headwind.
The total landing distance of 355 meters was 31% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.3 meters from the centerline, indicating that the pilot may have had some difficulty maintaining a straight course during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the OV-10 Bronco aircraft demonstrated some areas for improvement during the landing, it was still able to safely touch down on the runway. The pilot's performance was satisfactory, but there is room for refinement in terms of maintaining a more consistent approach and touchdown rate.
