Improve the takeoff
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
Side view — the last 3,458 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 3,458 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 671 ft short of the threshold. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Savage Cub taxied from the parking area to runway 07 at CEN4 High River Airport in less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm during the taxi-out.
During the departure roll on runway 07, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 55 kt and left the ground after a takeoff distance of 191 ft, which represented 6 % of the runway length. Ambient conditions were a temperature of 59 °F, wind 3 kt from 16°, with a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component.
The en-route climb commenced overhead the airport, climbing from 3 566 ft asl to 3 670 ft asl, an altitude gain of 104 ft achieved in 2 minutes while covering 2 nm.
For the final approach the aircraft was aligned with runway 07 from the west, maintaining a heading of 78.0° at 0 nm distance and an altitude of 213 ft agl.
Touchdown occurred before the runway threshold at a speed of 40 kt, with a firm touchdown rate of minus 387 fpm. The touchdown point was offset by 11 ft from the centreline. Weather at the time was temperature 59 °F, wind 2 kt from 16°, with a 2 kt cross-wind and a 1 kt head-wind.
The rollout distance measured 70 ft, equivalent to 2 % of the runway, and the aircraft maintained very good alignment throughout the rollout.
In total the flight covered 2nm, lasted 2 minutes, and consumed 1 lbs of fuel.
The final approach to runway 07 at CEN4 High River Airport was flown from the west on a heading of 78.0° at 0 nm and 213 ft AGL. Local conditions were temperature 59 °F with wind 2 kt from 16°, a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component.
Touchdown occurred before the threshold at a speed of 40 kt, which was a little fast, and the aircraft settled with a firm rate of -387 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 11 ft from the centreline and the total landing distance measured 70 ft, representing 2 % of the runway length.
Runway rollout alignment was very good.
With a score of 95.6 % the landing was strong; reducing the touchdown speed slightly will help avoid the firm vertical rate, and tightening lateral alignment will eliminate the 11-ft offset.
