Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 997 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 997 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 252 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDHK Kiel-Holtenau Airport took approximately 2 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then began its departure roll on runway 26, utilizing 21% of the available runway length to achieve a takeoff distance of 220 meters. Liftoff speed was reached at 67 knots, with a local temperature of 7°C and a headwind of 13 knots.
Following takeoff, the aircraft initiated an enroute climb, ascending from 468 feet above sea level to 3,996 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles. The climb rate was significant, with an increase of 3,527 feet in a relatively short period. The aircraft then transitioned to a level cruise, maintaining an altitude of 3,996 feet for 50 minutes while covering 108 nautical miles. The cruise phase was followed by a descent, which began 1 mile south west of Juist, Germany, and resulted in a decrease of 1,511 feet in 3 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off again, this time at 4 miles east of EDWR Borkum Airport, before initiating the final approach to runway 31.
The final approach was made from the south east, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 307.0° at 3 nautical miles and 1,509 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 212 meters and a touchdown speed of 52 knots. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 14 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was excessively misaligned by 53.4 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 449 meters, accounting for 45% of the available runway length. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 6 minutes. The total flight distance was 134 nautical miles, with a total fuel consumption of 195 kilograms and a flight duration of 71 minutes.
The final approach to runway 31 at EDWR Borkum Airport from the south east was executed with a heading of 307.0° at 3 nm and 1,509 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height observed. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 59 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing speed.
The aircraft touched down on the runway at a distance of 212 m, which was considered good. The touchdown speed of 52 kt was also within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -176 fpm was good, indicating a controlled descent. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 14.0 m from the centreline, which could have been a result of the crosswind conditions. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 9 °C and a wind of 22 kt at 228°, contributed to the challenging approach.
The total landing distance of 449 m was 45% of the runway length, which was within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was excessively misaligned by 53.4 m from the centreline, indicating a loss of directional control during the rollout phase. Despite this, the overall score for the landing was 78.8%, reflecting a satisfactory performance with some areas for improvement.
