Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,675 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,675 m of the 2,756 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 793 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, then departed from runway 25 at EDDS Stuttgart Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,670 meters, which is 55% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 151 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 13°C, with a wind speed of 10 knots at 210°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, and the headwind component was also 7 knots. After a successful takeoff, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany. The climb took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 64 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 2,309 feet above sea level to 29,805 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,496 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile south west of Stuhlingen, Germany. This phase lasted for 25 minutes and covered a distance of 174 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 2 miles south west of Pozzol Groppo, Italy, and took 17 minutes to complete, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles. The aircraft descended from 29,881 feet above sea level to 1,362 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,519 feet.
The final approach to runway 28 at LIMJ Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 285.0°. The aircraft was at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,338 feet above ground level when it began its descent. The landing was made on runway 28, which has a length of 2,756 meters. The threshold height at 62 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 130 knots.
The touchdown point was 379 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 116 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was heavy at -625 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.9 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 130°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, and the tailwind component was 10 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,596 meters, which is 58% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 275 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 73 minutes. The aircraft used 2,863 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at LIMJ Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, with a score of 85.2%. The final approach to runway 28 was initiated from the east, heading 285.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,338 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold speed of 130 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
However, the threshold height at 62 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high on its approach. Despite this, the touchdown point was 379 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. The touchdown speed of 116 knots was within the acceptable range, but the touchdown rate of -625 feet per minute (fpm) was considered heavy, indicating that the aircraft may have touched down with a higher than desired rate of descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.9 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the crosswind or tailwind conditions. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, a wind speed of 11 knots at 130°, with a crosswind of 4 knots and a tailwind of 10 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the slight misalignment of the aircraft on the runway.
The total landing distance of 1,596 meters was 58% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain its alignment with the runway centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the aircraft was able to safely touch down on the runway, and the pilot's skills and experience were able to mitigate some of the challenges posed by the weather conditions.
