Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,329 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,329 ft of the 9,475 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,037 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 13C at Chicago Midway International Airport. The takeoff distance was 3,982 feet, which accounted for 74% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 158 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 58°F and winds of 6 knots at 50°. The crosswind was 5 knots, while the headwind was 1 knot. After departing from Chicago Midway International Airport, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead West Lawn, Illinois. The climb took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 111 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,869 feet above sea level to 37,749 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,881 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 3 miles north of Cambridge, Illinois. This phase of the flight lasted 14 minutes and covered a distance of 96 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 6 miles northeast of MO82 Howard Airport Gorin, Missouri, and took 36 minutes to complete. During this time, the aircraft descended from 37,805 feet above sea level to 2,286 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,520 feet. The descent covered a distance of 141 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Kansas City International Airport, it began its final approach to runway 27 from the east, heading 275.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,265 feet above ground level. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 55°F and winds of 3 knots at 280°. The crosswind was 0 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots. The aircraft landed on runway 27, which had a length of 9,475 feet. The threshold height at 59 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 139 knots.
The touchdown point was 671 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 136 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -250 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 15 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total landing distance was 5,063 feet, accounting for 53% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect.
The total flight distance was 358 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 97 minutes. The aircraft used 8,489 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Kansas City International Airport (KMCI) on runway 27. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 275.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,265 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good speed of 139 knots during the approach, which is within the target threshold speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 671 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the optimal area. However, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was a bit faster than desired, indicating that the pilot may have applied a bit too much flare during the landing. The touchdown rate of -250 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft touched down with a moderate rate of descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 55°F and a gentle headwind of 3 knots from a direction of 280°. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 knots. The runway length of 9,475 feet provided a sufficient margin for the aircraft to come to a stop, with a total landing distance of 5,063 feet, which accounts for 53% of the runway.
The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing and was able to align the aircraft with the runway centerline. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 92.8%. While there were some minor deviations from the optimal landing parameters, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance were sufficient to ensure a safe and controlled landing.
