Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,494 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 159 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departure from UHSM Yuzhno-Kurilsk Mendeleyevo Airport was smooth, with the Cessna 208B taking off from runway 19 in 445 meters, utilizing only 22% of the available runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 80 kt, and the local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and a light wind of 1 kt at 270°, contributed to a stable and controlled takeoff.
As the aircraft climbed to 7,360 ft asl, it covered a distance of 10 nm in 4 minutes, achieving an impressive increase of 6,036 ft. The enroute level cruise phase that followed lasted 18 minutes, during which the aircraft maintained a steady altitude and covered a distance of 53 nm. The descent phase that preceded the final approach was also executed efficiently, with the aircraft descending from 7,691 ft asl to 4,013 ft asl in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nm. The final approach to runway 18 at RJCM Memanbetsu Airport was conducted from the north, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 175.0° at 4 nm and 649 ft agl.
The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 61 kt and a distance of 158 m, which was 18% of the available runway. The touchdown rate was firm at -382 fpm, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 8.9 m from the centreline. The taxiing to the parking area took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nm. The total flight distance was 106 nm, and the aircraft used 151 kg of fuel, achieving a fuel efficiency of 47 minutes per 100 kg. Overall, the flight was executed efficiently, with the aircraft performing well in various phases of flight.
The Cessna 208B touched down on runway 18 at RJCM Memanbetsu Airport with a good threshold height, indicating a well-executed approach. The threshold speed of 62 kt was slightly below the target, but still within acceptable limits. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, resulting in a touchdown distance of 158 m, which was considered good. The touchdown speed of 61 kt was also within the desired range, and the firm touchdown rate of -382 fpm suggested a controlled impact.
However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.9 m, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or a minor issue with the aircraft's directional control. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a light wind of 1 kt at 270 °, did not pose any significant challenges to the landing. The total landing distance of 445 m was 18% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short rollout.
The rollout phase saw the aircraft maintain a slightly misaligned path from the centreline by 8.3 m, which was consistent with the initial touchdown position. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 95.3%. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance ensured a safe and controlled touchdown.
