Improve the pattern base leg
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,885 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 192 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, then departed from runway 36 at Eskilstuna Airport (ESSU). The takeoff distance was 324 meters, which accounted for 17% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 62 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 0 knots. After takeoff, the aircraft entered a left-hand pattern, which involved a turn from the runway. The distance covered during this turn was 1 nautical mile in 13 seconds.
As the aircraft continued in the left-hand pattern, it encountered a crosswind from the same direction as the runway. The distance covered during this turn was less than 1 nautical mile in 22 seconds. The pattern then involved a downwind turn, which covered a distance of 1 nautical mile and had an angle to the runway of 57.3°. The downwind leg itself covered a distance of 2 nautical miles in 74 seconds.
The base leg turn, which followed the downwind leg, covered a distance of 1 nautical mile and had an angle to the runway of 46.8°. The base leg itself covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 29 seconds. The final turn, which preceded the final approach, covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 11 seconds.
The final approach to runway 36 was made from the south, with a heading of 357.0° and an altitude of 246 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was made on the runway, which had a length of 1,885 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed at 58 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 188 meters, and the touchdown speed was 50 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -248 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.9 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 431 meters, which accounted for 23% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 9 minutes. The aircraft used 2 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at Eskilstuna Airport (ESSU) with a score of 94.7%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 357.0° at an altitude of 246 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft touched down on runway 36, which has a length of 1,885 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 58 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 188 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 50 knots was also within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of -248 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, indicating a slightly steeper descent than desired.
The runway touchdown position was not perfectly aligned with the centerline, being off by 7.9 meters. This may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 15°C, a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°, and a crosswind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance of 431 meters was 23% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and rolling out in a controlled manner.
