Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 4,500 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 552 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Douglas DC-6 taxied from the parking area to runway 14 at MMSP Ponciano Arriaga International Airport, a movement that required 11 minutes and covered 5 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 14, the aircraft accelerated through a takeoff distance of 812 m, representing 27 % of the runway, and lifted off at 93 kt; ambient temperature was 20 °C with a wind of 14 kt from 100°, including a 10 kt cross-wind component and a 9 kt head-wind.
Climb commenced overhead the departure airport, with the DC-6 climbing from 6,477 ft asl to 15,014 ft asl, an altitude gain of 8,537 ft achieved in 7 minutes while traversing 20 nm.
The first cruise segment began 6 mi southeast of Soledad de Graciano Sanchez and persisted for 35 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 141 nm at level flight.
Descent started 6 mi southeast of Nopala de Villagran, descending from 14,993 ft asl to 9,273 ft asl, a loss of 5,719 ft in 7 minutes and spanning 26 nm.
A second level-cruise interval was initiated 3 mi southwest of Tequixquiac, lasting 8 minutes and covering 23 nm.
On final approach to runway 04C at MMSM Aeropuerto Internacional General Felipe Ángeles, the aircraft descended from 1,454 ft agl to 58 ft agl in 128 seconds and was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 04C was executed with a threshold height of 56 ft agl slightly above target and a threshold speed of 108 kt; touchdown occurred 125 m beyond the touchdown zone at 103 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 269 fpm and a lateral deviation of 4.5 m from the centreline. Local conditions were 17 °C, wind 12 kt from 40°, cross-wind 2 kt and head-wind 12 kt. The total landing distance measured 1,292 m, equivalent to 29 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was very good.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 5 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 222 nm, took 71 minutes, and consumed 955 kg of fuel.
