Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,988 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,988 ft of the 10,480 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 4,234 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Honda Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, taking approximately 4 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 17R, with the aircraft lifting off the ground after traveling just 106 feet, which accounted for only 1% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was 138 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 73°F and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 100°.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the Dallas-Fort Worth airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,681 feet above sea level to 35,600 feet, an increase of 33,918 feet, in just 12 minutes and covering a distance of 58 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase of the flight began approximately 1 mile southwest of the Knight Trow Ranch Airport in Canton, Texas, and lasted for 121 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 812 nautical miles.
As the flight continued, the enroute descent phase began approximately 4 miles west of the Montgomery Ranch Airport in Arcadia, Florida. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 35,727 feet above sea level to 1,296 feet, a decrease of 34,431 feet, in 21 minutes and covering a distance of 103 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 08R at Miami International Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading in a direction of 87.0° at an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 08R at Miami International Airport was notable for several factors. The threshold height at 111 feet above ground level was excessively over target, and the threshold speed was well above target at 125 knots. The touchdown point was 2,773 feet beyond the touchdown zone, but the touchdown speed of 101 knots was good, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -115 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 36 feet from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 35 feet from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 5,627 feet, which accounted for 54% of the runway's length. The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took approximately 1 minute to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 979 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 160 minutes, during which the aircraft used no fuel.
The Honda Jet's landing at KMIA Miami International Airport was evaluated with a score of 76.1%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 87.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,275 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was conducted on runway 08R, which has a length of 10,480 feet.
The threshold height at 111 feet agl was found to be excessively over the target, indicating that the aircraft descended more than necessary before reaching the runway threshold. Conversely, the threshold speed was well above the target at 125 knots, suggesting that the aircraft may have been descending too quickly or not maintaining a stable approach speed. The touchdown point was located 2,773 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the intended landing spot.
Despite the deviations in threshold height and speed, the touchdown speed of 101 knots was considered good, and the touchdown rate of -115 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 36 feet from the centreline, which may have contributed to the deviation from the intended landing spot.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 73°F and a wind speed of 6 knots from 100°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 6 knots. The total landing distance was 5,627 feet, which is 54% of the runway length.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 35 feet from the centreline, which is a minor deviation from the desired alignment. Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the Honda Jet's performance was satisfactory, and the pilot's skills were demonstrated in maintaining a smooth touchdown and controlling the aircraft during the rollout.
