Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,662 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,662 m of the 3,486 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 741 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 26L at London Gatwick Airport (EGKK). The takeoff distance was 1,777 meters, which accounted for 71% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 170 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 19 knots from a direction of 242 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 19 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Charlwood in Surrey, England. The climb took 23 minutes and covered 135 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,198 feet above sea level to 32,595 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,397 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 1 mile south of Montreuil-l'Argille in Normandie, France. This cruise phase lasted 85 minutes and covered 641 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 61 miles southeast of Cala d'Or in the Comunitat Autonoma de les Illes Balears, Spain. The descent took 9 minutes and covered 60 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 33,218 feet above sea level to 17,755 feet above sea level, a decrease of 15,463 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 38 miles north of Dellys in Wilaya de Boumerdes, Algeria. This cruise phase lasted only 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 38 miles north of Dellys. The descent took 12 minutes and covered 51 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 17,755 feet above sea level to 1,382 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,372 feet.
The final approach to runway 23 at Houari Boumediene Airport (DAAG) was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 233.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,294 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 23, which had a length of 3,486 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 150 knots.
The touchdown point was 332 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 143 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was excellent at -81 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 22 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a tailwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,589 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 7 minutes and covered 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 895 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 140 minutes. The aircraft used 6,695 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Houari Boumediene Airport, achieving a score of 95.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 233.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,294 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 23, which has a length of 3,486 meters.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 150 knots. The touchdown point was located 332 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 143 knots was a bit faster than desired, but the touchdown rate of -81 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, demonstrating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 25°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 22°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a tailwind of 5 knots, which may have contributed to the slight deviation from the intended landing spot. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The aircraft's score of 95.3% reflects a high level of proficiency and control during the landing, but also highlights areas for improvement to achieve a perfect score.
