Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,104 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,104 m of the 3,526 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 703 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 737-900 taxied from the parking area to runway 13 at LEMG Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 13, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 156 kt and left the ground after traveling 1,548 m, which represented 48 % of the runway length; ambient temperature was 28 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 130°, a headwind component of 2 kt and no cross-wind.
Climb commenced 1 mile southeast of LEMG, with the airplane rising from 1,007 ft asl to 33,992 ft asl, an altitude gain of 32,984 ft achieved in 28 minutes while covering 204 nm.
The level cruise segment began 2 miles northwest of Romeral and continued for 94 minutes, during which the aircraft traversed 740 nm.
Descent was initiated 2 miles west of Ronse, Belgium, with a reduction from 34,003 ft asl to 1,285 ft asl, a loss of 32,718 ft over 24 minutes and a distance of 138 nm.
The final approach to runway 18R at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was flown from the north on a heading of 183.0°, intercepting the glide path at 4 nm and 1,282 ft agl; local conditions were 15 °C, wind 2 kt from 200°, with a 1 kt cross-wind and a 2 kt head-wind component.
Landing on runway 18R, which is 3,526 m long, was executed with a threshold speed of 145 kt; touchdown occurred 291 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 137 kt and a vertical rate of minus 277 fpm, with runway alignment described as very good.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 2,026 m, representing 57 % of the runway, and runway-rollout alignment was perfect.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 8 minutes, traveling 3 nm.
In total, the flight covered 1,093 nm, lasted 163 minutes, and consumed 7,758 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737-900 entered the final approach to runway 18R at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol from the north on a heading of 183.0° at 4 nm and 1,282 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At threshold the aircraft presented a good threshold height and a good threshold speed of 145 kt. The flare was executed in accordance with the stabilised approach parameters.
Touchdown occurred 291 m beyond the touchdown zone with a good touchdown speed of 137 kt. The touchdown rate was fair at minus 277 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 2,026 m, representing 57 % of the 3,526 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was perfect.
Minor refinements should focus on reducing the touchdown point distance and moderating the flare to achieve a lower sink rate, which will further improve the already strong performance reflected by the 94.0 % score.
