Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,737 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 252 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight was conducted in an Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen aircraft, a lightweight and versatile plane. The taxiing process from the parking area to the runway took less than a minute and covered a distance of less than one nautical mile. The departure roll began on runway 30 at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport, and the takeoff distance was a mere 25 meters, which is just 1% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 37 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of the flight were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 270 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots. The pilot navigated a right-hand pattern entry from runway 30, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles in just 21 seconds. The subsequent right-hand pattern crosswind maneuver was completed in less than 1 nautical mile in 10 seconds.
The flight then proceeded to the pattern downwind turn, which covered a distance of 10 nautical miles at an angle of 45 degrees to the runway. The downwind leg itself was 5 nautical miles long and took 162 seconds to complete. The base leg turn was 7 nautical miles long and had an angle of 168.8 degrees to the runway. The base leg was less than 1 nautical mile long and took 6 seconds to complete. The final turn was 3 nautical miles long and took 143 seconds to complete.
The final approach to runway 12 at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport was made from the north-west, with a heading of 120 degrees at an altitude of 885 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 3 nautical miles from the runway. The landing on runway 12 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 250 meters and a touchdown speed of 18 knots. The touchdown rate was smooth at -136 feet per minute (fpm). However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.1 meters.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as during the takeoff, with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 270 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 2 knots. The total flight distance was 35 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 17 minutes. The aircraft used 3 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen, a pioneering aircraft, successfully landed at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport, showcasing its capabilities in various conditions. The final approach to runway 12 was initiated from the north-west, with the aircraft heading 120.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 885 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 2,737 meters. The threshold height at 59 feet agl was slightly above the target, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal landing height. However, the threshold speed was well above the target at 37 knots, suggesting that the aircraft was descending at a faster rate than anticipated.
Despite the slight deviations in threshold height and speed, the touchdown distance was good, measuring 250 meters. The touchdown speed of 18 knots was also within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -136 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, further emphasizing the pilot's skill in navigating the aircraft to a safe landing.
One notable aspect of the landing was the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was 4.1 meters off the centerline. This deviation may be attributed to various factors, including wind conditions or pilot error. However, the overall performance of the aircraft and the pilot's ability to maintain control throughout the landing process were commendable.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 270°. The crosswind was minimal at 1 knot, while the tailwind was 2 knots, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment of the touchdown position. Overall, the Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen demonstrated its capabilities in navigating various weather conditions and landing safely at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
