Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,902 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 668 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KSDF Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, taking approximately 4 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 17R, with the takeoff distance covering 49% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 146 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of the airport, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of the airport and reaching an altitude of 35,974 feet above sea level. This climb covered a distance of 101 nautical miles and took 16 minutes, with the aircraft increasing its altitude by 34,449 feet. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting 4 miles west of II63 Hickory Ridge Field Poseyville in Indiana. This cruise phase lasted for 27 minutes and covered a distance of 207 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting overhead 6MO8 Brazeale Farm Airport in Paris, Missouri. This descent took 14 minutes and covered 85 nautical miles, with the aircraft decreasing its altitude by 23,098 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 4 miles west of KKIG Kingston Airport in Missouri. This phase lasted for only 2 minutes and covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 4 miles east of 37MO Mayes Homestead Airport in Polo, Missouri. This descent took 8 minutes and covered 29 nautical miles, with the aircraft decreasing its altitude by 10,272 feet.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 19L at KMCI Kansas City International Airport. The approach was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 192.0 degrees at an altitude of 838 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots at 210 degrees.
The aircraft landed on runway 19L, with the touchdown point being 250 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 122 knots, which was good, while the touchdown rate was fair at -262 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 6.4 meters. The total landing distance was 1,435 meters, which was 49% of the runway length.
Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 5 minutes to cover 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 439 nautical miles, with the flight taking 81 minutes to complete. The aircraft used a total of 2,992 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Kansas City International Airport (KMCI) on runway 19L, achieving a score of 94.3%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 192.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 838 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing.
Upon touchdown, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 134 knots, which may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate or the wind conditions. The touchdown point was 250 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 122 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -262 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, indicating a moderate rate of descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the aircraft's alignment during the final approach or the wind conditions. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway after touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from 210°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly above-target threshold speed.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down safely on the runway and rolling out in a very good alignment. However, there were some minor deviations from the target parameters, which may be addressed in future training or operations to improve the aircraft's performance.
