Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,409 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 213 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Hong Kong International Airport, taking approximately 9 minutes to cover a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 07R, with a takeoff distance of 994 meters, which accounted for 27% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 22°C temperature and winds of 11 knots at 89 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 10 knots. After departing from Hong Kong, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and reached an altitude of 42,530 feet above sea level. The climb was a significant increase of 41,382 feet in 24 minutes, covering a distance of 129 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 9 miles south east of Jiazi, China. This phase of the flight lasted for 57 minutes and covered a distance of 473 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 27 miles north east of Beijiang Airport, China. The descent was a decrease of 38,818 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 104 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which started 11 miles south east of Shanghai Pudong International Airport. This phase of the flight lasted for only 3 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 35L at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, heading 334.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,060 feet above ground level and a distance of 3 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 134 knots and a touchdown distance of 213 meters. However, the touchdown rate was very hard at -533 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.9 meters from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 18.1 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 7°C temperature and winds of 7 knots at 340 degrees.
After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, taking approximately 4 minutes to cover a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 722 nautical miles, taking a total of 123 minutes, and the aircraft used 9,593 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner successfully landed at ZSPD Shanghai Pudong International Airport on runway 35L, achieving a score of 89.3%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 334.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,060 feet above ground level.
The landing was executed with good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it touched down on the runway. The threshold speed of 138 knots was also within the acceptable range, suggesting that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft's speed during the final approach. The touchdown distance of 213 meters was also good, indicating that the pilot had managed to slow down the aircraft effectively before touching down on the runway.
However, the touchdown rate of -533 feet per minute was very hard, which may indicate that the pilot had not fully utilized the aircraft's reverse thrust or had not applied the brakes effectively. This could have resulted in a longer stopping distance on the runway.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.9 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the final approach. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 7°C and a headwind of 7 knots, may have also contributed to this deviation.
The total landing distance of 953 meters was 28% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 18.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the pilot's continued deviation from the centerline after touchdown.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of touchdown rate and runway alignment. The pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft's speed and altitude during the final approach was good, but there were some minor deviations from the centerline that may have been due to the weather conditions or pilot error.
