Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,779 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,779 ft of the 8,612 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,537 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 24 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 17L at the Orlando International Airport (KMCO). The takeoff distance was 5,311 feet, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 156 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 4 knots at 210 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southeast of the Orlando International Airport. The climb took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 119 nautical miles, with the aircraft rising from an altitude of 1,107 feet above sea level to 34,190 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 262 minutes and covered a distance of 1,898 nautical miles. The cruise phase began 35 miles west of Belleair Beach, Florida. After the cruise phase, the aircraft started its enroute descent, which began 1 mile west of the Farias Wheel Airport in Nevada. The descent took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 102 nautical miles, with the aircraft decreasing its altitude from 34,028 feet to 1,325 feet.
The final approach to the runway was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 178.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 17R at the Sacramento International Airport (KSMF), which had a length of 8,612 feet. The threshold height was above the target, while the threshold speed was slightly above target at 137 knots. The touchdown point was 1,189 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 130 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -192 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 22 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 99 degrees Fahrenheit. The total landing distance was 5,531 feet, which accounted for 64% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 2,131 nautical miles, with the flight lasting 324 minutes and using 28,411 pounds of fuel.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at KSMF Sacramento International Airport on runway 17R. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 178.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated, and it scored an overall grade of 87.8%.
The aircraft's approach to the runway was satisfactory, with the threshold height being above the target at 68 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 137 knots, indicating a minor deviation from the optimal speed. The touchdown point was located 1,189 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the ideal landing spot. The touchdown speed of 130 knots was also a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -192 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 22 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to the aircraft's heading or the wind conditions during the landing. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were hot, with a temperature of 99°F, which may have affected the aircraft's performance.
The total landing distance of 5,531 feet was 64% of the runway length, which is a relatively long distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied effectively to bring the aircraft to a stop. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, but there were some minor deviations from the optimal performance.
