Union County, Troy Shelton Field (ICAO 35A) is a publicly owned general aviation airport serving Union, South Carolina, situated about a mile southwest of the town. It falls under the Atlanta Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC ZTL) and is tied in to the Anderson Flight Service Station (AND). Numerous VOR and NDB facilities lie within range, including the Spartanburg VORTAC (SPA, 115.70) about 25 nautical miles away and the Greenwood VORTAC (GRD, 115.50) around 36 nautical miles distant, useful for en-route orientation when approaching the field.
The airport has a single physical runway, 05/23, measuring 3514 feet, with a hard surface and runway lighting. There is no ILS approach available.
Communications are handled on a common CTAF/UNICOM frequency of 122.700 MHz, with no control tower or on-field FSS; NOTAM-D service and flight service support are provided through the Anderson FSS. Traffic patterns for both runway 05 and runway 23 are left-hand. Each runway end is equipped with a two-light PAPI on the left side to assist with the approach angle. Runway 05 carries non-precision instrument markings in good condition, while runway 23 has basic markings, also in good condition.
