Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,803 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,803 m of the 3,288 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 833 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This Boeing 777-300 flight departed from John F Kennedy International Airport, operating on runway 04L, which is a significant departure route for international flights from New York. Before taking off, the aircraft spent six minutes taxiing from the parking area to the runway, covering a distance of four nautical miles.
As the flight lifted off the ground, it reached its liftoff speed of 189 knots, which is about 65% of the total takeoff distance of 1,717 meters. With a local temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a gentle tailwind of 2 knots from the direction of 140 degrees, the flight conditions were relatively favorable for departure.
The aircraft initiated its enroute climb from Springfield Gardens, New York, rising to an altitude of 31,286 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,215 feet in just 17 minutes. The initial climb phase was followed by a level cruise, where the aircraft maintained a consistent speed and altitude for 22 minutes over a distance of 176 nautical miles to the south-east of Southampton, New York.
Throughout its journey, the aircraft executed numerous climb and level phases, with each segment marked by a change in altitude and direction. It climbed to higher altitudes near the Guadeloupe and Brazil regions, while maintaining a more stable cruise level further along the route.
The descent phase commenced near Gualeguaychu, Argentina, where the aircraft gradually lost altitude and descended to 1,343 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 110 nautical miles over the course of 23 minutes.
Upon approaching SAEZ Minister Pistarini International Airport in Argentina, the aircraft performed a final approach from the west on runway 11, maintaining an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level. The aircraft touched down beyond the designated touchdown zone with a slight excess speed and firm touchdown rate.
The total landing distance of 1,725 meters, which accounts for only 52% of the runway length, suggests that the plane had sufficient margin for a safe landing. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was considered excellent. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, covering less than one nautical mile over the course of two minutes.
The overall flight duration was 603 minutes, covering a total distance of 4,693 nautical miles and consuming an estimated 82,526 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 777-300 successfully landed at SAEZ Minister Pistarini International Airport, scoring an 89.0% on its performance. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading in a 102.0° direction at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon final approach, the aircraft encountered slight variations in the threshold height, which was above the target altitude of 69 ft agl. The threshold speed was also marginally above the target at 152 kt, but did not significantly impact the outcome.
At touchdown, the Boeing 777-300 landed 421 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is considered relatively far. However, the touchdown speed of 139 kt was slightly above the target and might have contributed to this distance. Fortunately, the touchdown rate was firm at -302 fpm, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The favorable local weather conditions included a temperature of 11°C and minimal wind speeds, with a gentle headwind of 1 kt and negligible crosswind. As a result, the aircraft was able to achieve a smooth touchdown.
During rollout, the aircraft maintained very good alignment with the runway, indicating excellent control and navigation skills from the pilots. The total landing distance of 1,725 meters equated to 52% of the runway length of 3,288 meters. This indicates a satisfactory performance, considering the slight discrepancies in the initial approach.
Overall, the successful landing of the Boeing 777-300 at SAEZ Minister Pistarini International Airport demonstrates the efficiency and capability of modern commercial aircraft. With proper training, navigation, and weather conditions, the aircraft is capable of achieving precise and controlled touchdowns.
