Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,253 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 530 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 28 at LIME Milan Bergamo Airport / Antonio Locatelli Air Base. The takeoff distance was 1,508 meters, which is 60% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 156 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 27 degrees. The crosswind was 6 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Orio al Serio in Lombardia, Italy. The climb took 20 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,799 feet above sea level to 34,334 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,535 feet. The distance covered during this period was 108 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 23 miles south of Portofino in Liguria, Italy. This cruise phase lasted for 52 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 381 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 36 miles west of Malfa in Sicilia, Italy. The descent took 9 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 34,468 feet above sea level to 18,923 feet above sea level, a decrease of 15,545 feet. The distance covered during this period was 60 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 4 miles south of Alcara Li Fusi in Sicilia, Italy. This cruise phase lasted for 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another descent, starting 1 mile north of Troina / Draginai in Sicilia, Italy. The descent took 12 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 18,263 feet above sea level to 4,822 feet above sea level, a decrease of 13,441 feet. The distance covered during this period was 23 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile north of Aidone in Sicilia, Italy. This cruise phase lasted for 3 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 11 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another descent, starting 2 miles east of LICE Campo di Volo Cugno Castel di Judica in Sicilia, Italy. The descent took 5 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 4,818 feet above sea level to 1,329 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,490 feet. The distance covered during this period was 14 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08 at LICC Catania-Fontanarossa Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 84.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,285 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 08, which has a length of 2,253 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 149 knots. The touchdown point was 120 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 141 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -151 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 9 knots at 70 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the headwind was 9 knots. The total landing distance was 1,426 meters
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, with a score of 99.1%. The final approach to runway 08 was initiated from the west, with a heading of 84.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level. The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold height, indicating that the pilots maintained a stable and controlled descent.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 148 kt, registering at 149 kt. However, the touchdown point was 120 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 141 kt was also a bit faster than the target speed, but the touchdown rate of -151 feet per minute was within acceptable limits.
The runway touchdown alignment was reported to be very good, indicating that the pilots maintained a stable and aligned approach to the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 9 kt from a direction of 70°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 kt, while the headwind component was 9 kt, which likely contributed to the stable approach.
The total landing distance of 1,426 meters was 63% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and brought it to a stop in a stable and aligned manner. Overall, the landing was successful, with the pilots demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach and touchdown phases.
