Improve the pattern downwind leg
The one change that would have gained the most on this flight, and the guide passage for it.
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: six checks at the point nearest 500 ft above the runway after the base turn. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 442 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied from the parking area to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport in less than one minute, covering less than one nautical mile.
During the departure roll on runway 05R, the TBM 930 accelerated through a take-off distance of 440 m, representing 13 % of the runway length, and lifted off at 91 kt. Ambient conditions were 17 °C with a wind from 020° at 19 kt, providing a 12 kt headwind and a 15 kt crosswind component.
The approach began with a right-hand pattern entry from runway 05R, a distance of less than one nautical mile completed in 32 seconds, followed by a right-hand crosswind segment of less than one nautical mile in 17 seconds. The aircraft then executed a downwind turn covering 2 nm at an angle of 116.0°, proceeded on the downwind leg for 4 nm in 89 seconds, turned onto the base leg with a 5 nm turn at 36.8°, flew the base leg for 2 nm in 73 seconds, and made a final turn of 2 nm in 77 seconds. The final approach was established from the southwest on a heading of 71.0°, at 2 nm and 796 ft AGL, inbound to runway 05R.
Landing was performed on runway 05R, whose length is 3 284 m. The threshold speed was 88 kt, and touchdown occurred 440 m down the runway at a speed of 79 kt, with a smooth descent rate of minus 135 fpm and perfect alignment. Weather at the time was 16 °C with a wind from 028° at 14 kt, yielding an 11 kt headwind and a 10 kt crosswind. The total landing distance measured 608 m, equivalent to 19 % of the runway.
Runway rollout continued with perfect alignment throughout the deceleration phase.
After landing, the aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in less than one minute, traveling less than one nautical mile.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 13 nm, took 8, and consumed 21 kg of fuel.
The TBM 930 approached runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport on a final approach from the south-west, heading 71.0 deg at 2 nm and 796 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits, and the aircraft carried a score of 97.7%.
At threshold the runway length was 3,284 m and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was good at 88 kt and the touchdown point was good at 440 m down the runway. Touchdown speed was 79 kt, a little fast, and the touchdown rate was smooth at minus 135 fpm. Runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The touchdown occurred with the aircraft aligned perfectly on the centreline, the speed remaining a little fast at 79 kt and the vertical rate remaining smooth at minus 135 fpm. No deviation from the intended touchdown point was noted.
Rollout alignment was perfect and the total landing distance was 608 m, representing 19 percent of the runway length.
To refine the already strong performance, reduce the touchdown speed slightly to bring it closer to the target speed, which will further optimise the landing distance and margin. Maintaining the current flare technique will preserve the smooth rate and alignment already demonstrated.
