Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: wings 18° of bank, against a 10° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,186 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 163 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at RJCM Memanbetsu Airport took less than a minute, covering a short distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The Cessna 208B then began its departure roll on runway 18, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 79 kt. The takeoff distance of 633 meters, which accounted for 25% of the runway, was achieved in a relatively short period. Local weather conditions at the time of departure included a temperature of 16 °C and a light wind of 1 kt from 269°.
As the aircraft climbed away from RJCM, it began its enroute climb 3 miles east of Motomachi, Hokkaido, Japan. The climb from 1,192 ft asl to 7,555 ft asl, an increase of 6,363 ft in just 5 minutes, covered a distance of 11 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, which lasted 42 minutes and covered 122 nautical miles. This was followed by a series of short level cruises, including one that lasted just 3 minutes and covered 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 7,999 ft asl to 2,035 ft asl, a decrease of 5,964 ft in 7 minutes, covering 19 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26 at RJCW Wakkanai Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 216.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,213 ft agl. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 162 meters and a touchdown speed of 62 kt. The touchdown rate was slightly hard at -404 fpm, but the threshold height and speed were good. The total landing distance of 1,317 meters, which accounted for 60% of the runway, was slightly misaligned from the centreline. After a short taxiing period of 2 minutes, the aircraft arrived at the parking area, having completed a total flight distance of 186 nautical miles and using 264 kg of fuel in the process.
The Cessna 208B touched down on runway 26 at RJCW Wakkanai Airport with a good threshold height, allowing the pilot to maintain a stable approach. The threshold speed of 63 kt was well within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth transition from the approach to the touchdown phase. The aircraft's touchdown distance of 162 m was also satisfactory, demonstrating good control and precision during the landing.
However, the touchdown rate of -404 fpm was slightly harder than desired, which may have been due to the pilot's attempt to maintain a stable approach in the prevailing wind conditions. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.6 m from the centreline, which could have been a result of the crosswind or the pilot's judgment. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and a light headwind of 1 kt, did not pose any significant challenges to the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,317 m was 60% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 11.7 m from the centreline, which may have been a result of the pilot's attempt to maintain control during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 94.0%, indicating a good level of proficiency and control.
