Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: centreline 4.5° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 893 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 893 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 101 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Carcassonne Airport (LFMK), the Black Square Caravan Professional Amphibian N511KG began its journey with a taxiing period of 9 minutes, covering 2 nautical miles to reach the runway. Runway 27 was selected for departure, and the aircraft lifted off after a takeoff distance of 481 meters, which accounted for 27% of the runway. The liftoff speed was achieved at 80 knots, with a local temperature of 14°C and a wind of 20 knots at 290°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile east of Caux-et-Sauzens, rising from 1,439 feet above sea level to 8,072 feet in 8 minutes, covering 10 nautical miles. The climb rate was impressive, with an increase of 6,633 feet in a short period. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise 1 mile southwest of Villepinte, maintaining an altitude of 8,072 feet for 58 minutes, covering 128 nautical miles. The descent phase started 1 mile southwest of Garein, where the aircraft descended from 7,919 feet to 1,594 feet in 8 minutes, covering 17 nautical miles. A brief level cruise phase followed, lasting 2 minutes and covering 3 nautical miles, before the aircraft began its final approach to runway 26 at LFCZ Aérodrome de Mimizan.
The final approach was executed from the east, heading 265.0° at 2 nautical miles and 893 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 101 meters, which was 48% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 72 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -239 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also excellent. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 1 minute, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 164 nautical miles, with a flight time of 87 minutes and a fuel consumption of 227 kilograms.
The final approach to runway 26 at LFCZ Aérodrome de Mimizan from the east was executed with precision, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 265.0° at 2 nautical miles and 893 feet above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 76 kt, well within the acceptable range. As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown distance of 101 meters was satisfactory, and the touchdown speed of 72 kt was also within the desired parameters.
However, the touchdown rate of -239 feet per minute was slightly below the optimal range, indicating a slightly longer deceleration period. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the touchdown phase. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 13°C and a wind speed of 17 kt at 298°, contributed to a moderate crosswind component of 10 kt and a headwind component of 14 kt.
The total landing distance of 424 meters, accounting for 48% of the runway length, was acceptable. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing performance of the Black Square Caravan Professional Amphibian N511KG was satisfactory, with a score of 98.5%.
