Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,862 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 614 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 30 at the Edmonton International Airport, CYEG, with a takeoff distance of 981 meters, which accounted for 32% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 155 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 1°C temperature and a wind speed of 26 knots at 320 degrees. The crosswind was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind was 26 knots. The enroute climb started overhead the Edmonton International Airport, where the aircraft ascended from 3,396 feet above sea level to 20,767 feet above sea level, an increase of 17,370 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 43 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 4 miles northwest of the Rimbey Airport, CFC7, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 52 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 7 miles northwest of Sundre, Alberta, and descended from 20,851 feet above sea level to 6,405 feet above sea level, a decrease of 14,446 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 64 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 5 miles northwest of Heritage Pointe, lasting for 4 minutes and covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35L at the Calgary International Airport, CYYC, was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 0.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,267 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 35L was successful, with the touchdown point being 191 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 134 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was firm at -394 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -1°C temperature and a wind speed of 26 knots at 330 degrees, with a crosswind of 13 knots and a headwind of 22 knots. The total landing distance was 1,242 meters, which accounted for 32% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 13.9 meters from the centreline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 178 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 45 minutes. The aircraft used 1,697 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 35L at Calgary International Airport (CYYC) with a score of 88.5%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 0.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,267 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a slight deviation in threshold height, being 58 feet agl, which was slightly above the target.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was also slightly above the target at 142 knots. The touchdown point was located 191 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 134 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -394 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -1°C, with a wind speed of 26 knots from a direction of 330°. This resulted in a crosswind of 13 knots and a headwind of 22 knots. The aircraft's runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.4 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 13.9 meters from the centerline.
Despite these minor deviations, the total landing distance of 1,242 meters was only 32% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and rolling out without any major issues. However, the deviations in threshold height, touchdown point, and runway alignment suggest areas for improvement in the pilot's technique and the aircraft's performance.
