Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,732 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 512 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 15 at LOWS Salzburg Airport, where the aircraft, a Citation CJ3+ with the registration N60US, took off with a takeoff distance of 553 meters, which accounted for 24% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 124 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 280 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 9 knots and a tailwind of 6 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb 1 mile southwest of Salzburg, Austria, and ascended from an initial altitude of 2,427 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 31,332 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,906 feet in just 10 minutes, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase began overhead Walchsee, Tirol, Austria, and lasted for 7 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 40 nautical miles.
The enroute descent phase started overhead Rinn, Tirol, Austria, and involved a descent from 31,393 feet above sea level to 5,846 feet above sea level, a decrease of 25,547 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 78 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 21 at LSZS Samedan Airport was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 208.0 degrees at 1 nautical mile and 244 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 21 at LSZS Samedan Airport was successful, with the touchdown point being 190 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 91 knots, which was considered good, and the touchdown rate was perfect at -35 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.0 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 39 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 0 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,212 meters, which accounted for 70% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 149 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 38 minutes, during which the aircraft used 277 kilograms of fuel.
The Citation CJ3+ aircraft, registered as N60US, successfully landed at LSZS Samedan Airport, achieving a score of 94.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-east, heading 208.0° at 1 nautical mile and 244 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, ensuring a good threshold height and speed of 102 knots upon touchdown.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 190 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a speed of 91 knots. This touchdown speed was considered good, and the touchdown rate of -35 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.0 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 0°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots from 39°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component of 0 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance of 1,212 meters was 70% of the available runway length, which is 1,732 meters. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach and touchdown phases. The slight misalignment of the touchdown position was the only notable deviation from an ideal landing, but it did not appear to have any significant impact on the overall performance of the aircraft.
