Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,663 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,663 m of the 2,544 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 514 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,890 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 169 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 0°C, with a wind speed of 5 knots at a direction of 70°.
The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead EDDM Munich Airport. The climb took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 130 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 2,525 feet above sea level to 35,009 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,484 feet. The enroute level cruise then began 3 miles south of Claut, Italy, and lasted for 49 minutes, covering a distance of 355 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, which started 9 miles south of Praiano, Italy. The descent took 25 minutes and covered a distance of 121 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,028 feet above sea level to 1,296 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,732 feet. The final approach to runway 10 at LICA Lamezia Terme Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 99.0° at an altitude of 1,259 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at 19 feet above ground level due to an unknown reason. The aircraft then landed on runway 10 at LICA Lamezia Terme Airport, which had a length of 2,544 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 148 knots. The touchdown point was 143 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 142 knots. The touchdown rate was smooth at -140 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.7 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 28 knots at a direction of 70°. The crosswind was 13 knots, and the headwind was 25 knots. The total landing distance was 1,627 meters, which accounted for 64% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 9 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 624 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 134 minutes. The aircraft used 6,158 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at LICA Lamezia Terme Airport, achieving a score of 96.3%. The final approach to runway 10 was initiated from the west, with a heading of 99.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,259 feet above ground level.
The landing was executed on runway 10, which has a length of 2,544 meters. The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was above the target speed, reaching 152 kt, and later 148 kt, which may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate or the pilot's decision to flare earlier than expected.
The touchdown point was 143 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may have been due to the pilot's decision to touch down slightly further down the runway. The touchdown speed of 142 kt was slightly faster than the target speed, but the touchdown rate was smooth at -140 feet per minute. This indicates that the aircraft's descent was controlled and stable.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.7 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the crosswind or the pilot's decision to align the aircraft with the runway. The local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 28 kt from a direction of 70°. The crosswind component was 13 kt, while the headwind component was 25 kt.
The total landing distance was 1,627 meters, which is 64% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 96.3%. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and runway alignment, which may have been due to the weather conditions or the pilot's decision-making.
