Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: no landing flap set and speed above the reference speed.
At the 500 ft gate: no landing flap set.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,701 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,701 m of the 2,646 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 292 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departure from Kaunas International Airport (EYKA) commenced with a roll on runway 26, utilizing 790 meters, or 30% of the available runway length. The aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 166 knots, clearing the ground and initiating the enroute climb phase. As the aircraft ascended from 1,238 feet above sea level (asl) to 2,117 ft asl, it demonstrated a notable rate of climb, increasing by 879 feet in just one minute while covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase was initiated overhead Dainava, lasting for 8 minutes and covering a distance of 21 nautical miles. Subsequent enroute climbs and descents were executed with precision, with the aircraft climbing from 2,672 ft asl to 3,314 ft asl in 2 minutes, and then descending from 3,306 ft asl to 1,721 ft asl in the same timeframe. The final approach to runway 08 was conducted from the west, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 83.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,444 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed with good threshold height, threshold speed, and touchdown speed, with a touchdown distance of 291 meters, or 11% of the available runway length.
The total landing distance was 1,620 meters, or 61% of the runway length, with the runway touchdown position slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline. Runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.5 meters from the centerline. Following a 2-minute taxi to the parking area, the aircraft completed the flight, having covered a total distance of 43 nautical miles and utilized 454 kilograms of fuel.
The B737 aircraft successfully completed a landing on runway 08 at EYKA Kaunas International Airport, demonstrating a high level of proficiency. The approach to the runway, initiated from the west at a heading of 83.0° and 4 nm from the threshold, was characterized by good quality, with the aircraft maintaining a steady descent rate of 1,444 ft agl. The pilot's control of the aircraft's speed and altitude was evident in the good threshold height and threshold speed of 132 kt, which were well within the acceptable parameters.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was equally impressive, with a touchdown distance of 291 m and a speed of 126 kt, both of which were within the desired ranges. The touchdown rate of -162 fpm was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 3.6 m, which may have been due to a minor deviation in the pilot's alignment during the final stages of the approach.
The rollout phase of the landing was also notable, with the aircraft maintaining a steady alignment with the runway centreline, albeit with a slight deviation of 10.5 m. The total landing distance of 1,620 m, which accounted for 61% of the runway length, was within the acceptable range. Overall, the landing was scored at 96.7%, reflecting the pilot's high level of skill and control throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
