Monitor your taxi speed
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,737 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 776 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Velocity XL, then departed from runway 30 at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport. The takeoff distance was 572 meters, which accounted for 21% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 110 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269°. The crosswind and headwind were both 1 knot, resulting in a relatively calm environment. The enroute climb began overhead Monkton, South Ayrshire, Scotland, where the aircraft ascended from 1,047 feet above sea level to 2,441 feet, an increase of 1,394 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 2 miles northwest of Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland, where the aircraft descended from 2,470 feet above sea level to 1,818 feet, a decrease of 652 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 12 at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport was made from the northwest, heading 122.0° at 3 nautical miles and 1,729 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 12 was successful, with a touchdown point 340 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 66 knots, which was considered good, and the touchdown rate was perfect at -18 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions during landing were a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,109 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 12 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 9 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used 0 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Aircraft Velocity XL successfully landed at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport, achieving a high score of 95.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-west, heading 122.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,729 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on runway 12, which has a length of 2,737 meters.
The aircraft's final approach was characterized by a good threshold height, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and controlled descent. However, the threshold speed was slightly too high at 97 knots, which may have been due to the aircraft's velocity or the pilot's decision to maintain a higher speed for the approach. Despite this, the touchdown speed of 66 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -18 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown.
The touchdown point was located 340 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. However, this may have been due to the aircraft's velocity and the pilot's decision to maintain a higher speed for the approach. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 1 knot, which is relatively minimal and would not have had a significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,109 meters, which is 41% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but it may have been due to the aircraft's velocity and the pilot's decision to maintain a higher speed for the approach. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the Aircraft Velocity XL's landing at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport was successful, despite some minor issues with the threshold speed and touchdown point. The pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance were demonstrated to be good, and the landing was executed safely and efficiently.
