Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 2,023 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,023 m of the 3,006 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 825 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a journey that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 13L at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 444 meters, which accounted for 12% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 113 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269 degrees. The crosswind and tailwind were both 1 knot, indicating relatively calm conditions. The aircraft then entered a right-hand pattern from runway 13L, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles in 46 seconds.
The right-hand pattern crosswind leg was particularly short, covering less than 1 nautical mile in just 12 seconds. The aircraft then proceeded to the pattern downwind turn, which covered a distance of 2 nautical miles at an angle of 45 degrees to the runway, with a bank angle of 10.0 degrees. The downwind leg itself was less than 1 nautical mile long, taking just 20 seconds to complete.
As the aircraft began its final approach to runway 31L, it was heading southeast at 302.0 degrees, 3 nautical miles from the runway and at an altitude of 1,119 feet above ground level. The landing was smooth, with a threshold height significantly above target, but a threshold speed of 129 knots, which was considered good.
The touchdown point was 409 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 124 knots, which was also considered good. The touchdown rate was smooth at -133 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 11.6 meters. The local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270 degrees, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,942 meters, which accounted for 65% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline by 13.9 meters. The total flight distance was 15 nautical miles, taking 9 minutes to complete, and the aircraft used 376 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft in question, an E195, successfully landed at LHBP Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport on runway 31L. The final approach was initiated from the south east, heading 302.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,119 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was satisfactory, with a threshold speed of 129 knots, which is within the acceptable range.
However, there were some discrepancies in the landing. The threshold height at 80 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high during the approach. Additionally, the touchdown point was 409 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which suggests that the aircraft may have landed slightly long. The touchdown speed of 124 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -133 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the approach. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
The total landing distance of 1,942 meters was 65% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 13.9 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have deviated from the centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, but there were some minor discrepancies that need to be addressed to improve the aircraft's performance.
