Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,738 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 384 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from V C Bird International Airport, the Embraer E190 aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 25, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 151 kt. The aircraft utilized 98% of the available runway length, covering a distance of 2,189 m before lifting off into the air. Local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 31 °C, with a wind blowing at 17 kt from a direction of 90 °, resulting in a tailwind component of 15 kt.
As the aircraft climbed to a safe altitude, it transitioned into an enroute climb phase, commencing overhead Potters Village. The aircraft successfully increased its altitude from 1,096 ft asl to 1,530 ft asl, a gain of 434 ft, in just 1 minute while covering a distance of 5 nm. Following this, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, lasting 4 minutes and covering a distance of 12 nm, 3 miles west of Saint John's. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 25, descending from an altitude of 185 ft agl and heading 238.0 ° from the north east.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 25, utilizing a distance of 385 m. However, the touchdown speed of 144 kt was slightly above the recommended threshold speed, and the touchdown rate of -268 fpm was considered fair. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 4.8 m. Local weather conditions at the time of landing featured a temperature of 30 °C, with a wind blowing at 12 kt from a direction of 90 °, resulting in a tailwind component of 10 kt. The total flight distance was 20 nm, covering a distance of 7 nm in 7 minutes, and the aircraft utilized 296 kg of fuel during the flight.
The Embraer E190 aircraft successfully completed a landing on runway 25 at TAPA V C Bird International Airport, with a final approach initiated from the north east, heading 238.0° at 0 nm and 185 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the recommended value at 150 kt, indicating a potential for a longer rollout.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was notable, with a touchdown distance of 385 m, which was within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 144 kt was higher than the recommended value, resulting in a fair touchdown rate of -268 fpm. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.8 m from the centreline, which may have been due to the moderate crosswind component of 6 kt and the tailwind of 10 kt. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 30 °C and a wind speed of 12 kt at 90°, may have contributed to the slight deviations from the ideal approach and touchdown characteristics.
The overall performance of the Embraer E190 during the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 94.0%. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal approach and touchdown characteristics, the aircraft's performance was generally good, and the crew demonstrated a high level of skill and proficiency in managing the aircraft during the landing.
