Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,395 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 559 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 13L at Cologne Bonn Airport (EDDK), with a takeoff distance of 1,150 meters, which was 30% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 140 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots at a direction of 100°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead Cologne Bonn Airport, and reached an altitude of 11,017 feet above sea level (asl) after climbing 9,648 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 17 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile south of Huerth, Germany, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 20 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 3 miles north of Rommerskirchen, Germany, and descended from 11,014 feet asl to 2,377 feet asl, a decrease of 8,637 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 22 nautical miles.
The enroute descent was followed by another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile south of Korschenbroich, Germany, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 05R at Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL), which was located to the southwest, at a heading of 53.0°, 4 nautical miles from the airport, and 1,359 feet above ground level (agl).
The landing on runway 05R at Düsseldorf Airport was successful, with a touchdown point 137 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 106 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was -160 feet per minute, which was also good. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots at a direction of 110°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,015 meters, which was 42% of the runway length. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 7.9 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 75 nautical miles, which was covered in 26 minutes, and the aircraft used 439 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
Aircraft C750 successfully landed on runway 05R at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport, achieving a high score of 96.8%. The final approach was conducted from the southwest, heading 53.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,359 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft demonstrated good control and precision during the approach, ultimately landing safely on the runway.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at a good 115 knots. The touchdown point was located 137 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 106 knots was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -160 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 110°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,015 meters, which represents 42% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled and landed smoothly. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 7.9 meters from the centerline, which may be a minor concern for future landings.
Overall, the landing of Aircraft C750 on runway 05R at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport was a successful and controlled operation, with the pilot demonstrating good skills and judgment. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters, the aircraft landed safely and efficiently, achieving a high score of 96.8%.
