Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,395 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 574 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft, an Airbus A320, embarked on its journey by taxiing from the parking to the runway, a 13-minute process that covered approximately 2 nautical miles (nm). It took off from runway 26L at Munich Airport (EDDM).
As the aircraft ascended, it achieved liftoff at a speed of 160 knots (kt) after covering 1,153 meters, which was approximately 29% of the runway. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 16 °C and a gentle wind blowing at 6 kt from the west (300 °). The aircraft benefited from a 5 kt headwind and navigated a 4 kt crosswind.
The enroute climb commenced over Hallbergmoos in Bavaria, Germany, where the aircraft rose from its initial altitude of 2,489 feet above sea level (asl) to reach its cruising height of 31,649 ft asl. This ascent spanned an impressive vertical distance of 29,160 ft in just 24 minutes, covering a total distance of 177 nm.
Upon levelling off about 1 mile north west of Reiskirchen in Hessen, Germany, the aircraft began its enroute cruise, which lasted for 2 minutes and spanned a short distance of 14 nm.
However, the enroute descent from 31,701 ft asl commenced about 3 miles north of Gladenbach in Hessen, Germany. The aircraft descended rapidly over the next 22 minutes, covering a distance of 75 nm and decreasing its altitude by 30,296 ft, finally reaching 1,405 ft asl.
As the aircraft approached Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL), it began its final descent. It flew from the south west, navigating a heading of 53.0 ° while descending at a height of 4 nm above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 05R, which measured 2,395 meters in length.
Given the favorable weather conditions - a temperature of 11 °C and a headwind of 14 kt - the aircraft managed a smooth touchdown. The threshold height was slightly above the target at 64 ft agl. Moreover, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 124 kt, which was suitable, and achieved a touchdown rate of -163 feet per minute (fpm), also within the optimal range. The runway touchdown alignment was perfectly aligned.
Following the landing, the aircraft continued rolling on the runway, and its alignment after rollout was perfect, utilizing just 41% of the runway. It eventually came to a stop after covering a distance of 992 meters.
The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, which took approximately 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nm. The total flight distance of 275 nm was covered in 62 minutes, while the aircraft consumed 2,913 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 achieved an impressive score of 94.5% on its recent landing at Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL). As the aircraft began its final approach to runway 05R from the south west, it followed Heading 53.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and at an altitude of 1,270 feet above ground level.
The key factors that determined the success of this landing were the aircraft's approach to the runway, its touch-down dynamics, and its performance on the runway after touch-down. In terms of the approach, the A320 demonstrated excellent control throughout its descent, achieving a touch-down speed of 133 knots, which is well within the target range. This suggests that the crew did an excellent job of managing the aircraft's descent and configuring it appropriately for touch-down.
Upon touch-down, the A320 performed admirably, coming to a stop within a distance of 992 meters (41% of the total runway length). The aircraft maintained an excellent touchdown speed of 124 knots, which suggests that the crew made precise adjustments to the aircraft's speed and pitch during the final stages of the approach. Moreover, the landing rate was impressively low at -163 feet per minute, which further adds to the overall smoothness and control of the landing. In terms of alignment, both during touch-down and after touch-down, the A320's performance was outstanding, as indicated by the perfect alignment with the runway touchdown point and the runway rollout.
Weather conditions at the time of the landing were quite favorable, with a relatively calm temperature of 11°C and moderate wind conditions, which further reduced the complexity of the landing task. However, despite the relatively low wind speeds, the crosswind was 4 knots, and the crew skillfully managed this to land the aircraft on course. Overall, the Airbus A320 landed smoothly, demonstrating a high level of proficiency and control, which ultimately earned the crew a remarkable score of 94.5%. This achievement is a testament to the crew's expertise and their skillful handling of the complex task of landing an aircraft safely.
