Flight Score
Arrival
Close the throttles earlier on final so you cross the threshold at 118 kt rather than carrying excess speed.
What happened: The aircraft crossed the threshold at 128 kt, 10 kt above the 118 kt target, and the nose was then only raised 1.2° in the flare, taking out little of the sink. Crossing the threshold fast like this usually carries extra energy into a flare that barely arrests the sink, and that combination usually ends in a firm touchdown.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator: 118 kt at the threshold.
There are several things that can go wrong during the flare, carrying too much speed over the threshold, starting the flare at the wrong height and inconsistent flight control inputs, all contribute to a poor flare resulting in a hard touchdown or a float down the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,707 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 741 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 1.78 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna 750 Citation X taxied to runway 18L at RJCC New Chitose Airport and commenced the departure roll, achieving liftoff at 139 kt after a takeoff run of 2,580 ft, which represented 26 % of the runway length. Ambient conditions were 77 °F with a wind of 14 kt from 179°, including a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 14 kt head-wind.
The initial climb began one mile south-west of RJCC, where the aircraft rose from 1,036 ft asl to 970 ft asl, an increase of 66 ft in less than one minute while covering less than one nautical mile.
A brief level cruise followed the first climb, lasting two minutes and extending the flight by 5 nm.
The second climb segment started three miles north-east of Tomakomai, climbing from 941 ft asl to 44,003 ft asl, a gain of 43,062 ft over 22 minutes and traversing 140 nm.
Subsequent level cruise commenced seven miles north of Ichinohe, persisting for 13 minutes and adding 112 nm to the distance covered.
The first descent began seven miles north-west of Tomiya, descending from 44,001 ft asl to 5,354 ft asl, a loss of 38,646 ft in 23 minutes while covering 163 nm.
A short cruise followed, beginning two miles north of Yoshikawa and lasting three minutes for a further 12 nm.
The second descent started one mile north-east of Wako, dropping from 4,979 ft asl to 1,200 ft asl, a decrease of 3,779 ft in five minutes and covering 13 nm.
During final approach to runway 16L at RJTT Tokyo Haneda International Airport, the aircraft approached from the north-west on a heading of 144.0° at 4 nm and 1,161 ft agl.
Landing on runway 16L was executed with a runway length of 10,995 ft; the threshold height of 164 ft agl was noted as excessively over target and the threshold speed of 129 kt slightly above target. Touchdown occurred 463 ft beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 126 kt, with a heavy touchdown rate of minus 845 fpm and a lateral deviation of 46 ft from the centreline. Local weather at the time was 84 °F with a wind of 7 kt from 90°, including a 6 kt cross-wind and a 4 kt head-wind.
The aircraft rolled out a total landing distance of 5,097 ft, representing 46 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment was slightly off centreline by 48 ft.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to parking in seven minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
In total, the flight covered 455 nm, required 80 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 2,446 lb of fuel.
The Cessna 750 Citation X conducted the final approach to runway 16L at RJTT Tokyo Haneda International Airport from the north-west, tracking a heading of 144.0° at 4 nm and 1,161 ft AGL while the local temperature was 84 °F, wind 7 kt from 090°, with a 6 kt crosswind component and a 4 kt headwind component.
At the threshold the aircraft was at 164 ft AGL, which was excessively over target, and the threshold speed was 129 kt, slightly above target.
Touchdown occurred 463 ft beyond the designated touchdown zone with a speed of 126 kt, described as fast, and a very heavy vertical rate of minus 845 fpm. The touchdown point was misaligned by 46 ft from the centreline, and the total landing distance measured 5,097 ft, representing 46 % of the runway length.
During rollout the aircraft remained slightly misaligned, deviating 48 ft from the centreline.
Refine the flare to achieve the target threshold height and reduce the vertical rate to avoid a very heavy touchdown. Adjust the approach profile to bring the touchdown speed closer to the intended value, which will also help improve alignment at touchdown.
