Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,134 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,134 m of the 3,349 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 786 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.

The final approach to runway 22 at VCBI Bandaranaike International Colombo Airport was executed from the north-east, on a heading of 217.0° at 4 nm and 1,245 ft agl.
Landing on runway 22 was achieved with a threshold height of 58 ft agl and a threshold speed of 147 kt; touchdown occurred 376 m beyond the touchdown zone at 139 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 165 fpm and a lateral deviation of 5.0 m from the centreline. Local conditions were 30 °C with a wind of 6 kt from 210°, providing a 1 kt cross-wind and a 6 kt head-wind. Total landing distance measured 2,059 m, representing 61 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment was reported as very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 5,064 nm, required 626 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 90,340 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 777-300 executed the final approach to runway 22 at VCBI Bandaranaike International Colombo Airport from the north-east on a heading of 217.0° at 4 nm and 1,245 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At threshold the aircraft encountered a height of 58 ft agl, which was slightly above the target, and established a threshold speed of 147 kt, judged good.
Touchdown occurred 376 m beyond the designated touchdown zone with a speed of 139 kt, also judged good, and a vertical rate of minus 165 fpm, recorded as good. The touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 5.0 m from the centreline. Ambient conditions were 30 °C with wind 6 kt from 210°, including a 1 kt crosswind component and a 6 kt headwind.
The aircraft rolled out over a total landing distance of 2,059 m, representing 61 % of the 3,349 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
With a final score of 92.2 %, the landing was strong overall; focus on reducing the touchdown point distance to remain within the touchdown zone and tightening centreline alignment to within a few metres will further improve precision.
