Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,194 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 713 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 20 at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) in Lisbon, Portugal. The takeoff distance was 1,477 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 174 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots at 243 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 2 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Alvalade in the Distrito de Lisboa, Portugal. The climb took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 146 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,290 feet above sea level to 35,200 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,910 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 90 minutes and covered a distance of 621 nautical miles. The cruise phase took place at a specific location with coordinates of 36.6865438 latitude and -10.8244283 longitude. After the cruise phase, the aircraft began its enroute descent, starting 12 miles south of GCGM La Gomera Airport Alajero in the Canary Islands, Spain. The descent took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 39 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 35,237 feet above sea level to 10,297 feet above sea level, a decrease of 24,940 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, this time lasting only 2 minutes and covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. This phase took place 2 miles northeast of Buenavista del Norte in the Canary Islands, Spain. Following this brief cruise phase, the aircraft began its final descent, starting 3 miles northwest of Los Gigantes in the Canary Islands, Spain. The descent took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 20 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 10,295 feet above sea level to 1,470 feet above sea level, a decrease of 8,825 feet.
The final approach to runway 07 at GCTS Tenerife Sur Airport was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading at 69.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,260 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 07 took place at a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots at 50 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 4 knots. The touchdown point was 298 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -208 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.6 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,376 meters, which accounted for 43% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 844 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 142 minutes. The aircraft used 6,729 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at GCTS Tenerife Sur Airport, achieving a score of 90.5%. The final approach to runway 07 was conducted from the south west, with a heading of 69.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,260 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a threshold speed of 144 knots, which met the target requirements.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 133 knots, which was also within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate of -208 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, indicating that the aircraft could have been slowed down more efficiently during the landing process. The touchdown point was 298 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may have been due to the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position by 4.6 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 18°C and a gentle wind of 4 knots at 50°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing process. The total landing distance of 1,376 meters was 43% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
One of the notable aspects of this landing was the excellent runway rollout alignment, which was described as "very good". This indicates that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and efficiently, allowing the aircraft to come to a stop in a straight line and minimizing the risk of any further incidents. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop safely within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
