Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 300 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope, off the centreline and wings not level.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 548 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 548 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 86 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at AYNO Nomane Airport took approximately 6 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll commenced on runway 08, with the aircraft clearing the runway threshold at 264 meters, which accounted for 69% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 63 knots. Local weather conditions at the time of departure included a temperature of 16°C, with a gentle tailwind of 2 knots from a direction of 270°.
As the aircraft departed AYNO Nomane Airport, it began its enroute climb, ascending from an initial altitude of 6,292 feet above sea level to 9,486 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,194 feet, over a distance of 9 nautical miles, within 4 minutes. The climb phase was followed by a brief level cruise, lasting 2 minutes, covering 4 nautical miles, before the aircraft commenced its descent, reducing its altitude from 9,784 feet above sea level to 5,113 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,671 feet, over a distance of 8 nautical miles, within 3 minutes. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, lasting 3 minutes, covering 4 nautical miles, before commencing its final approach to runway 17 at AYHX Herowena Airstrip.
The final approach was conducted from the north, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 176.0° at an altitude of 270 feet above ground level, 0 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The landing was executed with a threshold speed slightly below the target at 62 knots, and a touchdown distance of 84 meters, which was considered good. The touchdown speed was 58 knots, and the touchdown rate was 168 feet per minute, which was deemed perfect. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 13.7 meters from the centreline. The total landing distance was 288 meters, accounting for 53% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 13.7 meters from the centreline. The total flight distance was 28 nautical miles, taking approximately 15 minutes, and the aircraft consumed 42 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The final approach to runway 17 at AYHX Herowena Airstrip from the north was executed with good quality, with the aircraft maintaining a steady heading of 176.0° at 0 nm and 270 ft above ground level. The pilot successfully navigated the aircraft to the threshold, achieving a good threshold height. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 62 kt, indicating a minor deviation from the optimal landing speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated good characteristics, with a touchdown distance of 84 m and a touchdown speed of 58 kt, both of which were within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of 168 fpm was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 13.7 m from the centreline, which would require attention during the post-flight review. The total landing distance of 288 m, accounting for 53% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 13.7 m from the centreline, mirroring the touchdown position. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a wind of 2 kt at 269°, contributed to a negligible crosswind and headwind. Overall, the landing was scored 86.7%, reflecting a good performance with minor deviations from optimal procedures.
