Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,803 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,803 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Sharjah International Airport, the Airbus A320 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the designated runway, a process that took approximately 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. As the aircraft lined up on runway 30, the crew initiated the departure roll, and the aircraft lifted off the ground after a takeoff distance of 7,818 feet, which accounted for 69% of the available runway length. The liftoff speed was recorded at 171 knots, and the aircraft climbed away from the airport under the influence of a 4-knot tailwind.
As the aircraft transitioned into the enroute climb phase, it began to ascend from an initial altitude of 1,078 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 33,568 feet, a vertical increase of 32,491 feet over a distance of 176 nautical miles. This climb phase took approximately 27 minutes to complete. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 141 minutes and covered a distance of 1,112 nautical miles. During this phase, the aircraft flew at a consistent altitude, maintaining a steady speed and fuel consumption. The crew initiated the enroute descent phase approximately 18 miles east of Luxor International Airport, and the aircraft descended from a cruising altitude of 34,001 feet to a final approach altitude of 2,526 feet over a distance of 106 nautical miles. This descent phase took approximately 19 minutes to complete.
As the aircraft approached Suhaj Mubarak International Airport, it entered the final approach phase, aligning itself with runway 33 from the southeast. The aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 134 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown point was located 454 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the aircraft's touchdown rate was recorded at -220 feet per minute. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area in approximately 2 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,415 nautical miles, and the aircraft consumed 19,619 pounds of fuel over the course of the flight, which lasted for 204 minutes.
The aircraft, an Airbus A320, began its final approach to runway 33 at HESG Suhaj Mubarak International Airport from the south east, aligning with the runway heading of 328.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,166 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target, reaching 141 knots.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, it landed 454 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 134 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate of -220 feet per minute was fair. Notably, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating precise control during the landing phase. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 87°F and a gentle headwind of 2 knots at 294°.
The total landing distance covered by the aircraft was 4,443 feet, accounting for 45% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control during the critical phase of the landing. Overall, the landing performance was impressive, with a score of 98.7% achieved.
