Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,352 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,352 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 274 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Cessna 208B, then departed from runway 16R at KEUG Mahlon Sweet Field in Eugene, Oregon. The takeoff distance was 555 meters, which accounted for 23% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 86 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and winds of 10 knots at 306 degrees. The crosswind was 8 knots, while the tailwind was 6 knots. After departing from KEUG, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of the airport and rising from 1,372 feet above sea level to 8,872 feet above sea level, an increase of 7,500 feet in 7 minutes and covering 19 nautical miles.
The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise, which started 7 miles north of Drain, Oregon, and lasted for 94 minutes, covering a distance of 257 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 5 miles northwest of Brooktrails, California, and descending from 9,285 feet above sea level to 3,288 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,997 feet in 7 minutes and covering 18 nautical miles.
The enroute descent was followed by another level cruise, which started overhead Redwood Valley, California, and lasted for 10 minutes, covering 11 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles south of Talmage, California, and descending from 2,901 feet above sea level to 1,683 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,217 feet in 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile.
The final approach to runway 33 at KUKI Ukiah Municipal Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 345.0 degrees at 2 nautical miles and 1,050 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 33, which had a length of 1,352 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was too high at 82 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 274 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 71 knots. The touchdown rate was excellent at -94 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and winds of 6 knots at 302 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 659 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the taxiing to the parking area from the runway took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 314 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 125 minutes. The aircraft used 513 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna 208B aircraft successfully landed at KUKI Ukiah Municipal Airport, achieving a score of 94.0%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 345.0° at 2 nautical miles and 1,050 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 33, which has a length of 1,352 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was too high at 82 knots, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to reduce the speed further before touchdown. The touchdown distance of 274 meters was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was able to land within a reasonable distance from the threshold.
The touchdown speed of 71 knots was a little fast, which may have resulted in a slightly longer rollout distance. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate of -94 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down smoothly and maintain control. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain a stable approach and align the aircraft with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 33°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 302°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was also 4 knots. These conditions were relatively calm, which may have contributed to the smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 659 meters was 49% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to land within a reasonable distance from the threshold. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and align it with the centerline of the runway. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 94.0%.
