Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,652 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,652 m of the 1,999 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 690 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 29 at Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,339 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 13°C temperature and winds of 19 knots at 259 degrees. The crosswind was 10 knots, while the headwind was 16 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Rebiechowo, a town in the Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland, where the aircraft climbed from 1,449 feet above sea level to 32,942 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,493 feet in 19 minutes, covering a distance of 109 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 31 miles southeast of Degerhamn, a town in Kalmar, Sweden, and lasted for 71 minutes, covering a distance of 515 nautical miles. The aircraft then encountered another enroute climb, this time starting 2 miles north of Vilhelmina, a town in Vaesterbotten County, Sweden, where it climbed from 32,231 feet above sea level to 33,293 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,062 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 15 miles north of Vilhelmina and lasted for 27 minutes, covering a distance of 195 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 6 miles northeast of Kjopsvik, a town in Nordland Fylke, Norway, where the aircraft descended from 33,009 feet above sea level to 1,711 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,297 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 109 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 18 at Tromsø Airport, Langnes, was made from the north, heading 193.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,669 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 18, which had a length of 1,999 meters. The threshold height was slightly above the target, while the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 148 knots.
The touchdown point was 272 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 139 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -245 feet per minute, while the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 2°C temperature and winds of 6 knots at 280 degrees, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,568 meters, which accounted for 78% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 948 nautical miles, taking 159 minutes, and the aircraft used 6,791 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at ENTC Tromsø Airport, Langnes, with a score of 88.9%. The final approach to runway 18 was initiated from the north, heading 193.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,669 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a slightly above-target threshold height of 58 feet agl and a slightly above-target threshold speed of 148 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 272 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. The touchdown speed of 139 knots was slightly faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more aggressively to reduce the touchdown speed. However, the touchdown rate of -245 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the pilot was able to control the descent effectively.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 2°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 280°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was negligible. The runway length at ENTC Tromsø Airport, Langnes, is 1,999 meters, which is sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance of 1,568 meters, representing 78% of the runway.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and the pilot demonstrating good control during the rollout phase. However, there is room for improvement in terms of reducing the touchdown speed and distance beyond the touchdown zone.
