Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,717 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,717 m of the 3,006 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,464 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by an Embraer E190 aircraft. The takeoff process began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 31R at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,354 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway.
During takeoff, the aircraft reached a liftoff speed of 148 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 17°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
Following takeoff, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile northwest of the airport. The climb phase involved an increase in altitude from 1,541 feet above sea level to 2,829 feet, a rise of 1,288 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase began approximately 1 mile northeast of Kobanya, lasting for 5 minutes and covering a distance of 17 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a descent phase, which started 2 miles southeast of Visegrad, involving a decrease in altitude from 2,983 feet to 2,086 feet, a drop of 897 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began another climb phase, which started overhead Veroce, involving an increase in altitude from 2,095 feet to 3,540 feet, a rise of 1,444 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase resumed approximately 1 mile northeast of Szodliget, lasting for 2 minutes and covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The final descent phase began overhead Orbottyan, involving a decrease in altitude from 3,968 feet to 1,470 feet, a drop of 2,497 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 13R at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, heading 99.0° at 2 nautical miles and 990 feet above ground level.
The landing process was characterized by a touchdown point 1,043 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 146 knots, which was too fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -253 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 3 knots at 225°, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,721 meters, accounting for 91% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.7 meters from the centerline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 56 nautical miles, taking 24 minutes, and the aircraft used -2 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Embraer E190 aircraft successfully landed at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (LHBP) on runway 13R, but the landing was not without its issues. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 99.0° at 2 nautical miles and 990 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down 1,043 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the intended landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 146 knots was also too fast, exceeding the recommended speed for a safe landing. The touchdown rate of -253 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down relatively quickly after touchdown. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.4 meters from the centerline, which could have contributed to the issues with the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from 225°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and no headwind. Despite these favorable conditions, the aircraft's performance was still subpar.
One of the most significant issues with the landing was the excessive threshold speed of 159 knots, which is significantly higher than the recommended speed. This could have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and brakes, potentially leading to premature wear and tear. The threshold height at 96 feet agl was also significantly above the target, which may have contributed to the issues with the landing.
The total landing distance of 2,721 meters was 91% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop relatively quickly after touchdown. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.7 meters from the centerline, which could have contributed to the issues with the landing.
Overall, the Embraer E190 aircraft's landing at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport was not without its issues, with significant deviations from the intended landing spot and excessive speeds. However, the aircraft was able to stop relatively quickly after touchdown, and the local weather conditions were favorable.
