Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the centreline and speed above the reference speed.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope, off the centreline and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,524 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 152 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This flight was operated by an Embraer E190 aircraft, which began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Vienna International Airport (LOWW). The taxiing process took approximately 19 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles (nm). Once on the runway, the aircraft took off from runway 11, with a takeoff distance of 960 meters, which accounted for 27% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was recorded at 131 knots.
As the aircraft climbed into the air, it began its enroute climb, starting from an altitude of 1,511 feet above sea level (asl) and increasing to 1,885 ft asl, a rise of 374 feet in just 1 minute, while covering a distance of 2 nm. The climb took place overhead Klein-Neusiedl in Niederoesterreich, Austria.
The final approach to landing was initiated 2 miles west of Scharndorf, Niederoesterreich, Austria, with the aircraft descending from an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl) to 1 nm agl. The descent was a gradual one, with the aircraft approaching touchdown at a speed of 143 knots, which was slightly faster than expected. The touchdown rate was also heavier than usual, at -664 feet per minute (fpm), but the touchdown distance was satisfactory at 151 meters.
Following the touchdown, the aircraft began its landing rollout, covering a distance of 1,106 meters while maintaining an altitude of 572 ft asl. The taxiing process from the runway to the parking area took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nm.
The total flight distance was 11 nm, and the flight duration was 12 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 587 kilograms of fuel during the flight. The local weather conditions during the flight were characterized by a temperature of 12°C during the takeoff and 13°C during the landing.
The Embraer E190 aircraft successfully landed on the ground 2 miles west of Scharndorf, Niederoesterreich, Austria, with a final approach from 1 nautical mile away at an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's descent from 49 feet agl to 0 feet agl was quite steep, with a decrease of 49 feet in just 2 seconds, indicating a rapid loss of altitude.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was recorded at 143 knots, which is considered fast for a typical landing. This excessive speed resulted in a heavy touchdown rate of -664 feet per minute (fpm), indicating that the aircraft's wheels hit the ground with significant force. However, the touchdown distance of 151 meters was deemed good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were able to slow it down effectively.
Following the touchdown, the aircraft's landing rollout continued for 1,106 meters, with the aircraft maintaining an altitude of 572 feet above sea level (asl). The rollout distance was relatively long, but the aircraft was able to come to a stop without any issues.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius, which is relatively mild. The aircraft's performance and handling were not significantly affected by the weather, and the landing was completed without any major issues.
