Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 300 ft gate: no landing flap set, sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope, off the centreline and speed above the reference speed.

Side view — the last 1,220 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,220 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 403 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the OV-10 Bronco taxiing from the parking area to the runway at 79S Ft Benton, a process that took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then took off from runway 05, with a takeoff distance of 849 meters, which was 65% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 96 knots.
During the initial climb, the aircraft encountered local weather conditions of 16°C temperature and a 2-knot wind at 270°. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the tailwind was 2 knots. The enroute level cruise started overhead 79S Ft Benton and lasted 10 minutes, covering 33 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began an enroute climb from 3,398 feet above sea level (asl) to 4,360 ft asl, an increase of 962 feet in 2 minutes, covering 2 nautical miles. This climb started 1 mile northeast of Great Falls, Montana. Following the climb, the aircraft began an enroute descent from 4,376 ft asl to 3,829 ft asl, a decrease of 547 feet in 2 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise then started 4 miles south of Great Falls and lasted 5 minutes, covering 17 nautical miles. Another enroute descent started 2 miles northeast of 3MT7 Cascade Fld Cascade, with the aircraft descending from 4,486 ft asl to 3,781 ft asl, a decrease of 705 feet in 2 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, starting 4 miles southwest of 3MT7 Cascade Fld Cascade and lasting 8 minutes, covering 25 nautical miles. An enroute climb started 5 miles northeast of MT96 Wilhelm Airstrip Helena, with the aircraft climbing from 3,796 ft asl to 5,914 ft asl, an increase of 2,118 feet in 3 minutes, covering 11 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, starting 2 miles northeast of East Helena and lasting 2 minutes, covering 3 nautical miles. An enroute descent started overhead East Helena, with the aircraft descending from 5,807 ft asl to 5,028 ft asl, a decrease of 779 feet in 2 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, starting 5 miles southeast of 5M7 Mountain Lakes Field Helena and lasting 5 minutes, covering 18 nautical miles. An enroute descent started overhead 8U8 Townsend, with the aircraft descending from 5,206 ft asl to 4,188 ft asl, a decrease of 1,018 feet in 2 minutes, covering 1 nautical mile.
The final approach to runway 17 at 8U8 Townsend was from the north, with a heading of 178.0° at 0 nautical miles and 286 feet above ground level (agl). The landing on runway 17 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 404 meters. The touchdown speed was 92 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was fair at -276 feet per minute (fpm).
The local weather conditions during the landing were 15°C temperature and a 3-knot wind at 269°, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 0 knots. The total landing distance was 876 meters, which was 72% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The flight ended with the aircraft taxiing to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical
The OV-10 Bronco aircraft successfully landed at runway 17 of the 8U8 Townsend airport, achieving a score of 94.1%. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 178.0° at an altitude of 286 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft maintained a steady course, eventually touching down on the runway.
The landing performance was satisfactory, with the threshold height being above the target at 62 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was significantly higher than the target at 106 knots, indicating that the pilot may have been able to reduce the speed before touchdown. The touchdown distance of 404 meters was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and stability during the landing.
The touchdown speed of 92 knots was slightly faster than the target, which may have resulted in a slightly higher touchdown rate of -276 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from 269°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was zero. These conditions likely contributed to the successful landing.
The total landing distance of 876 meters was 72% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control and stability during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the OV-10 Bronco aircraft demonstrating good performance and control.
