Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 8,810 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,201 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at Niigata Airport, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Vision Jet, then departed from runway 28, with a takeoff distance of 1,396 feet, which was 17% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 97 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 50°F and winds of 10 knots at 310°. The crosswind was 6 knots, and the headwind was 8 knots. After departing from Niigata Airport, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and took it to an altitude of 26,629 feet. This climb covered a distance of 43 nautical miles and took 16 minutes, with an increase in altitude of 25,582 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 6 miles northwest of Yonezawa, Japan. This cruise lasted for 9 minutes and covered a distance of 47 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 3 miles southwest of Rifu, Japan. This descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 26,612 feet to 1,180 feet, a decrease of 25,432 feet, in 15 minutes and covered a distance of 19 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 25 at JASDF Matsushima Air Base was made from the northeast, with a heading of 221.0°, at an altitude of 1,173 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, which was 8,810 feet long, and the threshold height was above the target. However, the threshold speed was too high at 88 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 1,197 feet, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 75 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -208 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 26 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 47°F and winds of 11 knots at 50°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the tailwind was 11 knots. The total landing distance was 2,700 feet, which was 31% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 115 nautical miles, and the flight took 50 minutes. The aircraft used 340 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Vision Jet aircraft successfully landed at RJST JASDF Matsushima Air Base, but with some areas for improvement. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 221.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,173 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 25, which has a length of 8,810 feet.
However, there were some discrepancies during the landing. The threshold height at 62 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high on its approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 88 knots, suggesting that the pilot may have been unable to slow the aircraft down sufficiently before touchdown. The touchdown speed of 75 knots was also a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -208 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair.
The runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 26 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 47°F and winds of 11 knots at 50°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, but the tailwind component was 11 knots, which may have contributed to the aircraft's high touchdown speed.
Despite these issues, the total landing distance of 2,700 feet was only 31% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop relatively quickly. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the Vision Jet aircraft was able to safely touch down on the runway, and the pilot was able to recover from some of the initial errors.
