Monitor your taxi speed
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,050 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 279 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 06R at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX). The takeoff distance was 2,073 meters, which accounted for 71% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 168 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at a direction of 60 degrees.
The crosswind component was 1 knot, and the headwind component was also 1 knot. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile southwest of Inglewood, California. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,143 feet above sea level to 33,217 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,074 feet, in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 127 nautical miles.
After the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 10 miles west of Baker, California, and lasted for 71 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 1,484 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 4 miles south of Schoolcraft, Michigan, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 32,820 feet above sea level to 3,002 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,818 feet, in 18 minutes and covering a distance of 95 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which started 2 miles southeast of Maybee Airport in Michigan and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 04L at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (KDTW) was made from the southwest, heading 31.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,343 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing was made on runway 04L, which had a length of 3,050 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 144 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 281 meters, and the touchdown speed was 142 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -412 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of -8 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at a direction of 340 degrees.
The crosswind component was 2 knots, and the headwind component was also 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,365 meters, which accounted for 45% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft took 7 minutes to taxi to the parking, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,724 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 122 minutes. The aircraft used 11,450 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed on runway 04L at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, achieving a high score of 96.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, heading 31.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,343 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot's final approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 144 knots, which is within the acceptable range.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 281 meters, which is within the expected range. The touchdown speed of 142 knots was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. However, the touchdown rate was slightly hard, at -412 feet per minute (fpm), which may indicate a slight loss of control during the landing phase.
Despite the hard touchdown rate, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and aligned approach to the runway. The local weather conditions were also favorable, with a temperature of -8°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 340°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind component.
The total landing distance of 1,365 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and brought it to a stop safely.
Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot demonstrating good skills and control throughout the approach and landing phases. However, the hard touchdown rate may indicate a need for further training or practice to improve the pilot's ability to control the aircraft during the landing phase.
