Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 5,470 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,312 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 15L at KIAH George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport, with a takeoff distance of 6,045 feet, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 166 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 63°F and winds of 4 knots at 100°. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile south of the airport and continued for 31 minutes, covering a distance of 216 nautical miles. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,168 feet above sea level to 37,287 feet, an increase of 36,119 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 91 minutes and covered a distance of 756 nautical miles. The cruise phase began at a latitude of 26.9316243 and a longitude of -93.0642513. After the cruise phase, the aircraft began its enroute descent, which started 7 miles northeast of Morazan, Honduras. The descent phase lasted for 18 minutes, during which the aircraft decreased its altitude from 37,143 feet to 3,383 feet, a decrease of 33,760 feet. The descent covered a distance of 84 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 02 at MHTG Toncontín International Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 19.0° and an altitude of 124 feet above ground level. The landing was made on a runway with a length of 5,470 feet, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was slightly above the target speed at 138 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 1,317 feet, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 130 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -439 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 68°F and winds of 5 knots at 330°. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 3,820 feet, which was 70% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 1,060 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 152 minutes. The aircraft used 13,860 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at MHTG Toncontín International Airport, achieving a score of 97.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the south, heading 19.0° at an altitude of 124 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed on runway 02, which has a length of 5,470 feet.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 138 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was a bit faster than desired, which may have contributed to a harder touchdown rate of -439 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the touchdown distance of 1,317 feet was within acceptable limits.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 68°F and a gentle wind of 5 knots at 330°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions allowed the aircraft to maintain a stable approach and landing.
The total landing distance of 3,820 feet was 70% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's skill and control during the landing phase. Overall, the landing was executed with precision, and the aircraft came to a stop in a safe and controlled manner.
