Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,868 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,868 m of the 3,096 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 868 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking to the runway at FMCH Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport, taking 8 minutes and covering 2 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 02, with a takeoff distance of 1,290 meters, which was 44% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 160 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 34 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 17 knots at 330 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 13 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile north of the airport and rising from 1,071 feet above sea level to 38,475 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,403 feet in 21 minutes, covering 125 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 42 miles southwest of Kani Keli and lasting 38 minutes, covering 278 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 22 miles south of Maevatanana and descending from 38,503 feet above sea level to 8,907 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,596 feet in 12 minutes, covering 83 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 5 miles south of Ankazobe Airport and lasting 2 minutes, covering 4 nautical miles. However, this was short-lived, as the aircraft began its final descent, starting 9 miles south of Ankazobe Airport and descending from 8,482 feet above sea level to 5,479 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,004 feet in 3 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 11 at FMMI Ivato Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 99.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,307 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 3,096 meters, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was also good at 134 knots.
The touchdown point was 458 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 127 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was firm at -387 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 13 knots at 330 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a tailwind of 8 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,792 meters, which was 58% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking from the runway, taking 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 507 nautical miles, taking 86 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,585 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at FMMI Ivato Airport, achieving a score of 91.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 99.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 11, which has a length of 3,096 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 134 knots, which was within the acceptable threshold speed. The touchdown point was located 458 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 127 knots was still within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -387 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29°C and winds blowing at 13 knots from a direction of 330°. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a tailwind of 8 knots, which may have contributed to the slight deviation from the centerline during the landing roll. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the landing phase.
The total landing distance of 1,792 meters was 58% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
