Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,142 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 80 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 2.50 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (KCLT) took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. Departure roll commenced on runway 18L, with the aircraft clearing the runway threshold at 1,310 meters, which represented 49% of the runway's length. Liftoff speed was achieved at 151 knots, as the aircraft began its takeoff roll. Local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 19 knots from a direction of 190 degrees, resulting in a 5-knot crosswind and an 18-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from KCLT, it began its enroute climb 1 mile southeast of the airport, ascending from an initial altitude of 1,775 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 37,008 feet, an increase of 35,234 feet in 18 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 122 nautical miles. Following a brief level cruise phase, the aircraft began its enroute descent 2 miles northwest of Friendship, Maryland, reducing its altitude from 37,018 feet to 4,620 feet in 27 minutes, a decrease of 32,399 feet. The descent phase covered a distance of 165 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a final level cruise phase, lasting 2 minutes, before commencing its final descent.
The aircraft began its final approach to runway 22L at Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR) from the northeast, heading 204.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,282 feet above ground level. The landing was executed with a threshold speed slightly below target at 117 knots, and a touchdown distance of 72 meters. The touchdown speed of 118 knots was within acceptable limits, but the touchdown rate was heavy at -1,218 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was excessively misaligned by 33.8 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 28.8 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 981 meters, representing 46% of the runway's length. Following a taxiing period of 8 minutes, the aircraft arrived at the parking area, having completed a total flight distance of 523 nautical miles and consuming 3,685 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft, an Airbus A319, initiated its final approach to runway 22L at KEWR Newark Liberty International Airport from the north east, aligning with a heading of 204.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,282 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target, registering at 117 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated a good touchdown distance of 72 meters, with a speed of 118 knots. Unfortunately, the touchdown rate was excessively heavy, measuring -1,218 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was also found to be significantly misaligned, deviating by 33.8 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 27°C and a wind speed of 16 knots from 230°, contributed to a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 14 knots.
The total landing distance of 981 meters accounted for 46% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing. However, the runway rollout alignment was also found to be misaligned, deviating by 28.8 meters from the centreline. Overall, the landing performance scored 69.9%, reflecting a satisfactory but not exceptional execution of the landing.
