Improve the pattern downwind leg
Spacing cues are relative to your eyepoint, so two simmers with different FOV settings following the same wingtip cue fly patterns half a mile different in width, and a wide FOV compresses depth so the runway on base looks further away than it is, biasing you towards a late turn. Pick a camera position and FOV, save it, and never change it, because every judgement you calibrate is calibrated to that picture.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,490 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 261 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Groningen Airport Eelde, the Piper Cub taxied to runway 23 and began its departure roll, accelerating down the 2,493-meter-long runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 43 knots, achieving liftoff in a distance of 233 meters, which accounted for just 9% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle wind of 1 knot from 270 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind component.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern, it demonstrated impressive agility, completing the pattern entry in less than 1 nautical mile in just 16 seconds. The subsequent downwind turn was executed smoothly, with the aircraft maintaining a consistent angle of 45 degrees to the runway. The downwind leg itself was flown for 2 nautical miles, taking 536 seconds to complete. The final approach was initiated from a heading of 231.0 degrees, with the aircraft descending from an altitude of 223 feet above ground level (agl) to touch down on the runway.
The landing was executed flawlessly, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 33 knots and a touchdown rate of -106 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown distance of 235 meters was within acceptable limits, accounting for just 10% of the available runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft coming to a stop in a straight line. The total landing distance of 260 meters was an impressive achievement, considering the favorable weather conditions and the aircraft's performance. The total flight distance of 16 nautical miles was completed in 14 minutes, with the aircraft using a mere 0 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft touched down smoothly on runway 23 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde, with a threshold height that was well within acceptable limits. The approach quality was excellent, with a heading of 231.0° from the north east at 0 nm and 223 ft above ground level. The threshold speed was good at 45 kt, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown distance of 235 m was also within the desired range, and the touchdown speed of 33 kt was consistent with a controlled descent.
The touchdown characteristics were notable for their smoothness, with a rate of -106 fpm that indicated a well-coordinated landing. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a wind of 1 kt at 270°, contributed to a stable and predictable approach. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 1 kt each, further reducing the complexity of the approach.
The rollout phase was equally impressive, with perfect alignment on the runway centerline. The total landing distance of 260 m was only 10% of the runway length, indicating a short and controlled rollout. Overall, the landing was a success, with a score of 97.9% reflecting the high quality of the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
